     Wouldn't It Be Nice?

    July 8, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

While picking peas, I would come upon a weed and I would pull it up. I thought, wouldn't it be nice if no weeds grew in my garden? The longer I picked, the hotter the sun felt. I thought, wouldn't it be nice if the peas would grow in the shade? I found a plastic wrapper in the pea patch and knew someone had thrown it out. I thought, wouldn't it be nice if people would do like they ought to do? But, weeds are gonna grow, peas won't grow in the shade, and not everyone is gonna do like they ought to do. But you can. Pause a moment and repent; and ask God to make you what He wants you to be. He's waiting...

    Count On It

    July 1, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Some things you can count on, almost a 100% guarantee. For example; if you live in the deep South, you can count on summer being hot - sometimes sweltering. If you plant a vegetable garden, the vegetables may or may not produce, but you can count on grass and weeds making a bumper crop! When it comes to the promises of the Lord Jesus, you can count on them becoming reality - 100% guaranteed. What promise do you need from the Lord today? How about - He will save you if you call on Him; or, He will never leave you; or, that He's coming back to take us home? Claim the promises of the Lord today, and put yourself in His care. He's waiting...

    Let's Rest

    June 16, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

"Let's rest" are words I find myself using more frequently. I'm glad that I can still go and do, but the older I get, the more I need rest - and oh how good it feels to be refreshed! That truth is magnified when we speak in spiritual terms. To be tired physically is one thing, to be tired spiritually is quite another. Taking a break usually provides enough energy to continue physical activity. Not so, spiritually. When we need spiritual renewal, we will only find that in Jesus. He has extended an invitation to come to Him and rest and be spiritually refreshed. Have you done that? He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Matthew 11:28-30

    Plain Enough

    June 9, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recorded in the Bible are these words: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." Plain enough. Do you believe? He's waiting...

    Keep On Keeping On

    June 2, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Years ago I read a statement that has stuck with me: "A man can be on the right road and get run over if he just sits still." True. We don't need to stop, in the sense of giving up or quitting. We are encouraged in scripture to press on, ever moving forward. Sometimes the way is rough and it may seem like we can't go on. On those occasions we just need to remember that with God on our side there is nothing that can defeat us - unless we stop and give up. So, don't stop! Keep on keeping on and look to the Lord to provide. Call on Him... He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: Philippians 3:14

    Attitude Adjustment

    May 26, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

One definition for attitude is, "a settled way of thinking or feeling about someone or something." Our attitude directly impacts the way we live our lives. I like the attitude of the lady I read about who looked in the mirror one morning and had only three long hairs on her head. Her response was that she would braid her hair. She did and went on her way and had a good day. The next morning she looked and only two hairs were there. She decided she would part her hair down the middle. She did and went on her way and had a good day. The third morning there was only one hair. She decided to wear her hair in a pony tail. She did and went on her way and had a good day. The next morning there was no hair on her head - not one! She said, "Thank goodness, I had run out of ways to fix my hair!" She went on her way and had a good day. Is your attitude such that no matter what, you can go your way and have a good day? If not, maybe you need an attitude adjustment. God is in that business. Seek Him. He's waiting.

    Is The Light On?

    May 19, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My grandmother was very frugal. She used extremely low watt light bulbs and only turned on one! I remember my daddy picking at her (his mother) and saying, "Mama, I'm gonna have to strike a match to see if that light is on!" Jesus said of His people that we are the light of the world. How much light are you giving to a sin sick world? My grandmother's little bulb didn't give much light. Are you shining bright for Jesus? If not, why not? Let God energize you today and be the light the Lord expects you to be. He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Matthew 5:14-16

    That Won't Get It

    May 12, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recently I got out my pressure washer to do some cleaning - a LOT of cleaning! I connected the water hose and started the engine. With several hours of cleaning ahead, I pulled the trigger on the wand and started. The water burst forth from the nozzle for about 3 seconds and then the pressure dropped. Then it started back up for about 3 seconds. That won't get it. I shut off the engine and started searching for the problem. Some obstruction was in the hose and was robbing the machine of a constant water supply. I successfully cleared the obstruction and for the next several hours the little machine worked fine. Do you, as a Christian, ever find yourself operating in spurts? Do you struggle through your day with little or no power? That won't get it! What's wrong? Could it be that unconfessed sin in your life is robbing you of a constant supply of God's strength? Ask God to show you the problem, and let Him correct it. He's waiting...

    He Sees

    May 5, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was looking out the window recently and saw a red bird land on the fence near the back porch. He looked around and then flew to the porch. Very cautiously he made his way to the dish that had cat food in it. He looked around and snatched a piece of cat food and flew off. A bird eating cat food; pretty funny I think, but that maybe is a message for another time. Anyway, the red bird never knew that I was watching every move he made. Do you realize that God sees every move we make? He even knows our thoughts! To know that He sees all is either most comforting or most discomfiting, depending on what we are doing! God doesn't want you to be uncomfortable in His presence. Get in His will today and be comfortable knowing He sees. He's waiting.

Scripture references: Psalm 139:2, Proverbs 15:3

You Should See The Other Guy

    April 28, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Sometimes after a fight when one person looks like he got the worst end of the event, may say "You should see the other guy." It seems that has become the practice of man, to point to someone else who is worse than us to make ourselves look better. There is one major thing wrong with that - God won't judge you by comparing you to another person. Jesus is our standard, He is the One we will be judged by. So don't compare yourself to someone else. How do you measure up to Jesus' example? Is there room for improvement? Call on Him to help. He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: Romans 8:29

    I Can Fly

    April 21, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

A bumblebee is not supposed to be able to fly. If you see one that is still, you will understand why that would be the conclusion. The size of its wings in comparison to the size of its body would make it unable to fly. However, not only can it fly, it can maneuver quite remarkably. It can even hover! Those who have studied this phenomenon have determined the bumblebee can fly because it doesn't flap its wings up and down; instead, their wings move forth and back with something of a rotating motion. So that clears up how a bumblebee can fly, kinda. But what about the title of this message - I can fly? That is a true statement. I can fly. Not right now, but I can fly. I am a Christian, I have everlasting life. That enables me to fly. When Jesus returns, He will call His people up, we will meet Him in the air and we will be with Him forever! So that clears up how I can fly, kinda. It is true that a bumblebee can fly, and so can I. The greater question is - can you? Don't miss out on your day of flight. Trust Jesus today! He's waiting.

    The Lord was gone

    April 14, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

There is an old song and the chorus is: "Oh the stone was rolled away, He's no longer where He lay; He has risen for I feel Him in my soul. Long ago His work was ended, and to glory He ascended; the stone was rolled away, the Lord was gone." The best news this world will ever hear is the Lord was gone (from the tomb) , He has risen! That truth gives hope to all who will receive it and trust Him. He has risen for you. Have you trusted Him? He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: Mark 16:1-6

    I Can't Do That

    April 7, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

One morning recently I stepped outside to check the amount of rain in the gauge and I heard a distressed call coming from the goat yard. I walked to get a look at what I suspected had happened and sure enough, there was a goat with his head stuck through the fence. I climbed over the fence and saw where he had pawed the ground. He had stuck his head through the fence to eat green foliage on the other side (there is a saying about the grass looks greener on the other side, but that's a lesson for another time), and now he can't get his head out. At least that's what he thought. When I reached down to free him, I didn't even have to touch him. When he saw me he twisted his head and pulled back and his head popped free from the fence and there he went - loping off to join the other goats! So with us - we may think we can't do something, but when we look up to God in faith, we can do things we once thought to be impossible. Are you facing what seems to be an impossible situation? Look to God because "with God all things are possible." He's waiting...

    Zero Turn

    March 24, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I admit that I stay pretty much behind on some things, especially technology. Only about two years ago I got my first smart phone. Yesterday I mowed grass for the first time with a zero turn lawn mower. The first time you say? Before you say too much, please read again the first sentence of this message. Ok, back to the zero turn - what an experience! It is most like a ride at an amusement park. Never have I had such fun mowing grass! It was exhilarating. Going along in one direction and ZIP - right back the other way. Made me smile every time. You know, that's what the Lord asks us to do when He calls on us to repent. Repentance means you are traveling in one direction (the wrong one) , and ZIP you turn back to Him and His ways. Repentance leaves me exhilarated and happy. Just as I smiled every time I turned on the zero turn mower, so I smile every time I turn back (repent) to Jesus. Do you need a smile? Repent and look to Jesus. He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: Matthew 4:17

    Irritated AND Medicated

    March 17, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Being sick is such an inconvenience. If you have allergy problems as I do, you know that Spring can be a challenge. Spring is great and I love it, but pollen sure brings some misery. So I feel bad and get stuffy and irritated. Finally I go to the doctor and get a shot and some meds. Now I'm irritated AND medicated! Either one is unpleasant, the two together are terrible. And then I remember that God said, "in every thing give thanks." That's a tough one. Then I realize the allergy season will pass and I will feel good again. So I thank God for the doctor and the medicine and the hope of being well. Amazing how when I take time to thank God for His blessings, I don't have time to complain. Have you thanked Him today for His blessings on you? He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: First Thessalonians 5:18

    What Happened

    March 10, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever seen new engine oil, fresh out of the container and never used? It is a beautiful light golden color, with a tint of amber. The oil I drained from my truck engine was not that color. It started out pretty and clean, but ended up black! What happened? Impurities turned it black. That's why I changed it. The liquid I drained was still oil, but the impurities had robbed it of its ability to perform as designed. So with us. God designed us to live for Him, to live clean and productive lives. However, impurities (sin) came in and robbed us of our ability to perform as God designed us. The cure for dirty engine oil is to replace it with clean, fresh oil. The cure for sin is the cleansing power of Jesus. He washes us whiter than snow and replaces the black sin with His righteousness - if we let Him. Will you let Him cleanse you? He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Psalm 51:7

    Not Clean

    March 3, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The saying "once in a blue moon" usually means the event being spoken of doesn't happen very often. That is about how often I wash dishes - once in a blue moon. I don't say that proudly, it's just the truth. One time my wife got out a dish to use that I had washed and she said, "this dish is not clean!" Oops. The only reason the dish wasn't clean was because I had not washed it properly. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't clean. No one wants to use a dish that is not clean. So with us spiritually. Without the precious blood of Jesus, our spirit is not clean. May not be too bad, but still not clean. Are you clean - spiritually? Without Jesus you are not clean! He will clean you today, right now, if you will ask Him. He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Isaiah 1:18

    Child Check

    February 24, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I drove up my driveway and saw a baby goat outside the goat yard. The other goats were in the right place and the little goat was staring through the fence, apparently not happy where he was - separated from the others. For whatever reason he had strayed from where he was supposed to be and now all he wanted was to get back on the correct side of the fence. I picked him up and set him over the fence. He rejoiced (bleated) and ran to the other goats. When a Christian strays from where God wants him, he can't be content. That's one check that can be made to determine whether or not a person is a child of God. When God saved you He didn't fix it so you can't sin; but He did fix it so you can't sin and enjoy it! Are you a child of God? Have you strayed from God? Ask Him and He will restore you to Himself. He's waiting...

    Plan B

    February 17, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I like to wash laundry and hang it on clotheslines outdoors to dry. Obviously, weather conditions have to be right to do that. Sunny, warm, breezy days are ideal. I keep check on weather predictions to pick the best day. Most of the time, in fact an amazingly high percentage of the time, the weather forecasters are accurate and all goes well. However, sometimes something changes and my laundry doesn't dry. Maybe an unexpected rain shower or just too much cool, damp air. There was a change in what was predicted, but no reason to fret, we do have a plan B - a clothes dryer inside. There is something predicted that is not going to change - the return of Jesus ! Predicted in Scripture and a 100 percent guarantee it will happen. And unlike when my laundry doesn't dry outside and I can dry it inside, there won't be a plan B when Jesus comes. If you are not ready when He comes - too bad. Please don't be caught unprepared. His return is predicted and He's coming! Look to Him while there's time. He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: First Thessalonians 4:13-5:4

    Executive Decision

    February 10, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Sometimes I tell my wife that I have made an executive decision and her response is usually "Oh boy, and what might it be?" To get the full impact of that, you really have to know me - and her! Many times the phrase "executive decision" is used jokingly - tongue in cheek. It is, however, a valid thing and denotes a very important action. God made the greatest of all executive decisions. He decided to love us! No matter what other good news you have ever, or will ever receive, that is the greatest good news - God loves you! Have you accepted His love? Do you love Him? He's waiting.

Scripture references: Jeremiah 31:3, Romans 5:8, First John 3:1, First John 4:8

    Interruption

    February 3, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have learned that most people don't like to be interrupted. When I was a child my daddy taught me not to walk up on a conversation and start blurting out nonessential information. Have you ever been watching a TV show and heard these words, "We interrupt the regularly scheduled program to bring you this special news bulletin?" What was your immediate response? I think I know. And then when the report is over the voice says, "We now resume the regularly scheduled program." Great. How much did I miss?! It is amazing to me how often our "regularly scheduled" lives are interrupted. Interruptions cause us to make adjustments and continue our lives along an altered course. We don't know that interruptions are coming - except for one. The Lord Jesus is returning and His return will interrupt EVERYTHING! The difference in that interruption and everyday interruptions is you can prepare now for His return. When He comes you won't continue your "regularly scheduled" life. Now understand, only He can prepare you for His return. Are you ready for His interruption? Have you let Him prepare you for it? He's waiting.

Scripture references: Matthew 24:36-44, First Peter 3:10

    Convenience

    January 27, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

How I love convenience! Don't you? I can place a frozen waffle in the toaster and by the time I pour my milk (which is in a container in the refrigerator - more convenience) and get the syrup out of the cabinet, the waffle pops up ready to eat. Convenience. Just think for a moment how much in your life is centered around convenience. Have you ever left a message for someone to call you at their convenience? I like going along in life with little trouble or effort, which is what convenience means. But beware - there is one thing that you can't wait to do until it is convenient. That is serve the Lord. There is so much demand on our time so that it never is really convenient to serve Him. You must consciously choose to serve Him and maintain a diligent effort; but believe this - the reward for serving Him greatly outweighs the effort! Don't put it off any longer. It will never be convenient to serve Him. Decide now. He's waiting...

    Watch Carefully

    January 20, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I am not a cook. Sometimes I am put in a position to prepare food and I can accomplish that. My wife is a cook, but recently she was sick so I was called upon to prepare some food. I stood and watched as the heat under the pan changed the bacon in the pan into crispy deliciousness. I had to watch carefully so at just the right time I could remove the bacon from the heat. Too little time - bacon not done. Too much time - bacon burnt. Either result not good. Sometimes God applies heat to His child, not as bacon in a pan, but by some means He will put His child through a purification process. He watches carefully as His child changes into something useful to Him. So when God is correcting you, don't get angry and rebellious. Instead, ask Him what He wants from you. Better yet - ask Him what He wants from you before He applies the heat! He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: Malachi 3:1-3

    Seasonal

    January 13, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I am not a shopper. I don't criticize those who are, but I am not. I am a buyer. I prefer to go to a store, buy what I need and leave. On occasion I have gone to buy an item and couldn't find it. For example, I went to buy some ant poison and the store was sold out of it. Inquiring about when more would come in, I was told there wouldn't be any more that year - it was a seasonal item. But it's August, I responded. Ants are still in season. Another time I went to buy a small electric heater. The store was sold out of heaters and there would be no more - heaters were seasonal items. But it's January, I responded. Winter is still in season. I'm sure glad that God is not seasonal! He is always available. I have never needed God when He wasn't available. Have you? Of course not. Have you been in touch with Him today? He's waiting.

Scripture references: Psalm 46:1, Hebrews 13:5

    Found It!

    January 6, 2019 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever been filling your glass with ice and a piece of ice drops onto the floor? Then comes the hard part - finding it! You know it's there, somewhere, but where? Oh well, just forget it. But you know how it feels to walk into the kitchen later with socks on and step in the little puddle left when the ice cube melted? Oh boy... That little wet spot on your sock cannot be ignored. It makes you uncomfortable and aggravated. It's there and the only way to get it off your mind is to get a fresh sock. Now, what about sin in your life? That sin you know is there. The sin that you cannot ignore. It makes you uncomfortable and aggravated, much like that wet spot on your sock. Why don't you get a fresh start? Agree with God and confess that sin to Him and receive His cleansing. He's waiting...

    It Made Me Smile

    December 23, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

It was a beautiful day and we had raked a lot of leaves at our place. Emphasis on a LOT! Then I started the dreaded task of burning the leaves. I have learned that you can't just pile a giant pile of leaves, set them on fire and leave them to burn. No. You have to start a pile to burning, add some to the pile as it burns and stir, stir, stir. Man, I could think of all kind of things I would rather be doing. As I sat and rested between stirring the pile and adding more leaves to be burned, I saw something that made me smile. There among all the dismal signs of winter was a pretty little yellow flower. The cold weather had caused the trees to give up their leaves and the grass to turn brown; and there was that little yellow flower. I wondered what kind of flower could that be? Then I thought about Jesus. It was asked of Him one time, "What kind of man is this?" In the midst of all the strife that cast a dismal view on things, He was different. He was in stark contrast to the surroundings, just as that pretty little yellow flower. Does everything around you look dark and dismal? Look at Jesus. He's different, and He will make a difference for you. That's why He came into this world, you know. To make a difference for you. He's waiting...

    SNAP!

    December 16, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Several years ago I built a fence around part of my place. There was an oak tree about 12 inches in diameter where I wanted the fence to end so I nailed the wire to it. I set a treated post halfway down the fence run and drove steel posts between the tree and treated post and secured the wire. Over the years the tree has grown to about 20 inches in diameter. I have watched as the wire was pulled tighter and tighter because of the increase in the tree diameter. The pressure is even causing the steel posts and treated post to lean in the direction of the oak tree! Given enough time the wire will snap. The only way to prevent that is to cut the wire to relieve the pressure. Our lives are like that wire. Given enough pressure over enough time and - SNAP! Something must give. How about this - cast those cares on Jesus before you snap. Don't try to live without His strength. Be obedient to Him and get relief - before you SNAP! He's waiting...

    It Could Be Worse

    December 9, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever driven in fog? It's quite unnerving. One night a few years ago what should have been a four hour drive took over seven hours because of fog. It could be worse? Yep. Recently we had freezing fog! FREEZING FOG! Can it get any worse? How about thunder snow? I have actually heard of that. Let me change the phrase. It could be BETTER! Speaking of your life - it could be better. How? With Jesus. If you don't have Jesus, your life has no hope of getting better. And it will certainly get worse. Sorry - but it's true. Invite Him in today. He's waiting...

    'Tis The Season

    December 2, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Ah yes, Christmas. 'Tis the season to be stressed, strained and in general, overwhelmed. Sad but so for many people. The whole point of this season is too many times missed, or neglected. This is the season when mankind should be celebrating. The only reason the season exists is because God Himself came to this earth to dwell among men! How have we allowed this season to become a burden instead of a blessing? Could it be that we have allowed our focus to be shifted? It seems we no longer focus on the Person of Christmas. Instead we focus on our problems. When we focus on our problems, we are disheartened. When we focus on the Person of Christmas and our purpose in life, we are encouraged. Let's refocus. Who is the Person of Christmas? Jesus. What is our purpose in life? To be a praise to His glory. Now, ask yourself. Is that how your life looks to others? Are you a praise to His glory? Look to the Person of Christmas. He's waiting...

    It Is Time

    November 24, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

By my recollection and thinking, fall came late this year. The calendar date said fall, but the leaves were not changing colors. I kept watching the leaves around my place and waiting for the fall colors - and they just stayed green. I even doubted that they would change. Then one day it happened. The beautiful yellows and oranges and reds started appearing. Almost overnight the trees had transformed and the beautiful colors burst forth! Certain things had to happen before the leaves changed. The changes in the length of daylight and temperature had caused the leaves to change colors. When conditions got right it happened - fall returned! Jesus has promised to return. The promise was made a very long time ago. Some think He is late. Some even doubt that He's coming. But be assured, when certain things happen, He will return! The Father will say, "It is time, " and suddenly He will come. Are you watching for His return? Are you doubting that He's coming? Let God renew in you the hope of His return. He's waiting...

    Taste

    November 17, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The word "taste" brings certain images to mind. Not everyone has the same tastes. People have different tastes in clothes, food, music, worship style, and on and on. I'm not sure what determines a person's taste. Maybe what he was exposed to growing up. Maybe a pleasant, or unpleasant, experience associated with a certain thing. Whatever formed our taste, we definitely differ in our likes and dislikes. What is good taste to one, can be bad taste to another. There is only one taste that carries only a good impact - the taste for God. The Psalmist said, "O taste and see that the LORD is good." He is good - there is no bad in Him. Have you tasted, that means have you experienced God through faith in the Lord Jesus? If you have, you know He is good. If you haven't, why not experience Him now? He's waiting...

    Naturally Downhill

    November 11, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Most of us probably have stood beside a creek or river and watched as the water flowed along. We might have seen a leaf on the surface of the water and watched as it drifted by, carried along by the current. In our studies we learned that water flows naturally downhill. Contained in its banks and governed by gravity the stream continues along - downhill. Unless something interrupts the natural flow, the stream will eventually end up in the sea or ocean. In 1812 an earthquake was powerful enough that the Mississippi River actually flowed uphill for several hours. So things can change! As mankind we naturally go downhill. We are contained in our fallen nature and governed by evil and move naturally downhill. Unless something interrupts our natural movement, we will reach our destination - hell. Thanks be to God there is something to interrupt our downward spiral - His grace! God offers salvation full and free through His Son Jesus. Have you received His grace? Let Him rescue you from the downhill spiral that ends in destruction. He's waiting...

    Fall Leaves

    November 4, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Those who know me know I like old sayings and slogans. Some are helpful, some are interesting, and some are just funny - and we all need a good laugh from time to time. I read a saying recently on a church sign - "Fall Leaves, Jesus Doesn't ". When I read it I thought, that's pretty good. The more I thought about it, the more profound its meaning became. Jesus doesn't leave you. That's either very encouraging or very discomfiting - depends on your position with Him. If you are sad or troubled, it's encouraging to know that Jesus is with you. If you are not living right, it's discomfiting to know that Jesus is STILL with you and knows what is going on! Knowing that Jesus never leaves you - is that encouraging or discomfiting to you in your present condition? Get right with Him and be blessed! He's waiting.

    It's Possible

    October 28, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you noticed how things are packaged? I recently opened a new box of facial tissues and had a difficult time getting them to pop up. Several pulled out before only one was available. And what about items that have to be back in the original package if they are to be returned! Right - try that. It is difficult, but it's possible. Now think of this - as a Christian, the Holy Spirit is "packaged" in our fleshly body and we are called upon to live Godly in a Godless world. Is it possible? Yes, it has been done. Jesus did it. He was tempted and yet didn't sin. While it's true we won't live sinless, we can live Godly lives. Difficult, but it's possible. It's possible ONLY if we surrender our will to the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us. Are you a Christian, saved by grace? Are you living Godly? It's possible! Won't you surrender to God today and allow Him to live in and through you? He's waiting.

    Pawpaw's Shoes

    October 21, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My youngest grandson will soon be two years old and was at my house the other day. I enjoy watching him play, and love for him to sit with me and watch cartoons. My house shoes were on the floor by my chair. He slid out of the chair and stepped into my house shoes, and then tried to walk - FUNNY! He can walk fine - except with my shoes on. They simply do not fit - they are not his. He slid the shoes on the floor a few steps, stumbled, and then stepped out of them. "Pawpaw's shoes!" he exclaimed. He realized that even though he would like to walk in my shoes, he can't - at least not very well. I thought how much like that child I am sometimes. When I step out of character and try to be or do something I'm not equipped to do, I slip and stumble. When I live as God equips me to live, things go much better. Are you trying to live some way that God has not designed or equipped you to live? Seek God's way. Be yourself in God's plan. He's waiting.

    Missing

    October 14, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have five goats. They are in an area so that with a quick look I can see if they are all where they are supposed to be. Most of the time they stay pretty close together. Sometimes when I look, maybe only four are together. I don't think, well maybe the other one will come back. No, I look until I find it. Most of the time the one missing has just lagged behind the others, but on occasion I have found one with its head stuck through the fence and can't get free without assistance. If I didn't seek the one missing, it could be injured - or worse. Sometimes one of God's children may lag behind and not be where God wants him to be. God doesn't think, well maybe things will work out. No! He seeks the missing one to return him to the flock. Is that one you? Are you where God wants you to be? If not, stop and let God restore you as only He can. He's waiting.

    Recognition

    October 7, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

One definition of recognition is: "special notice or attention." Recently at our church three persons were recognized for their years of faithful service in positions they had been elected to. They were each presented a plaque which represented the appreciation the church has for their faithful service. Wonderful! Well done. It is a good thing to be faithful in our service to the Lord. There is coming a time when the Lord Himself will recognize all who are faithful in their service to Him. I often say that my motive for living each day is so that when I stand before Jesus He will look at me and say, "Well done." Are you living your life faithful to the Lord? What is your motive for living? Submit to Him and make it your goal for Him to say to you, "Well done." He's waiting....

    Don't Pull Back

    September 30, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was driving one morning to an appointment and there had recently been a rain shower in the area. A mist of water was coming from a big truck ahead of me. The windshield washer doesn't work on my pickup, so I dropped back to get out of the spray - too late. The wipers on my truck made a smeary mess on my windshield. I looked ahead toward the big truck and thought, maybe there is enough spray to actually help my situation. So I drove up closer and turned on my wipers . The spray actually was enough to clean my windshield. Dropping back worsened the situation, while staying close was a benefit. Sometimes in life we receive a blessing while in the midst of a bad situation - if we trust God to provide. A dear preacher friend of mine once said, "For the Christian, adversity brings advancement." When adversity comes in your life, meet it head on and trust God to bring you a blessing from it. Surrender to Him and be ready. He's waiting...

    Determination

    September 23, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was mowing one day and heading toward a post I had set years ago to nail fence wire to. The fence is gone, but the post is still there. When I got close enough, I could see something emerging from the post. Curious? Of course. The post was cut from an old utility pole, which was probably made from a pine tree, and definitely treated. Emerging from that post is an oak sprout! I thought, now that's determination! An oak sprout emerging from a treated post which probably began as a pine tree. I have kept up with the progress of that sprout and, you know, there's not much progress. As amazing as it is, that's not the ideal place for the sprout to grow and develop. So with our lives. We may be determined and work hard to achieve our goal, but if our plan for life is not God's plan for our life, no matter the determination we won't progress as we could. Only in God's plan will we strive and be all we are designed to be. How about you? Do you have determination? Is that determination aimed in the right direction? Seek God for His plan and apply that determination and see what a difference it makes. He's waiting...

    Praise God!

    September 16, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Do you praise God? Many reasons can be given for praising God. Most begin - "I praise God for" . . . For His healing; for my family; for my salvation; for my job, and so on. All of those are great reasons to praise God. May I suggest something? Have you ever praised God "because". Because what? Because He alone is God! I know we are to "forget not His benefits" - but sometimes try praising God just because - just because He is God. Concentrate on what that means - He is God! He's waiting...

    What Are You Doing?

    September 9, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Sometimes when I am in the next room and bumping around, my wife will call out and ask what am I doing. Sometimes my answer is "Nothing." Sometimes I will call someone on the phone and ask "What are you up to?" Often the reply is "Nothing". I sometimes like to take time and really and truly do nothing. God is never like that. He is always continually doing something, and what He is doing is done because of His great love for us! Whether He is guiding us, correcting us, or working in some bad experience for our good - He is always continually working. If we will but realize that and trust God in what He is doing, our lives will be truly blessed. Have you trusted what God has done and is doing for you? He's waiting...

    Signs

    September 2, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

It's still a few weeks until fall officially starts, but for a couple of weeks in August I noticed signs of change. The sky looked different somehow. It's still blue , but not as bright. Something of a dim blue. The trees are giving up some of their leaves already; and for a few days the temperature and humidity felt more like fall than summer. Along some roadsides the golden rod has made its appearance. All of these are signs of the coming of fall. There are other signs given of the greatest event that's coming - the return of Jesus! Many folks watch the signs and anxiously await the refreshing days of fall. May we watch the signs and anxiously wait for His return. Then the believers' redemption will be complete. Then refreshing - not just for a season - but for eternity! Are you watching the signs of His return? Turn your eyes toward Him. He's waiting...

Lessons From The Pea Patch: Part 5

    August 27, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

What a great good time! The peas that were harvested were properly prepared and placed on the supper table - ready for the eating. The days of plowing, planting, cultivating, picking and shelling were tiresome; but now - at the supper table - the reward greatly outweighs the toil. So it will be when we believers - Christ's bride - sit down in heaven at the marriage supper of the Lamb. Hallelujah! The days of toil and trial will be passed. Celebration and rejoicing forever! Are you a part of Christ's church? You can be. Trust Him today. He's waiting...

Lessons From The Pea Patch: Part 4

    August 19, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The pea plants had done their job. The harvest of the crop was finished. The leaves on the plants had changed from green to yellow. It seemed a little sad that the plants would end up that way. But then I thought, it's almost as if the plants are being rewarded for having done a good job - the yellow leaves were like a crown rewarding the plants for their success! We as believers in Christ Jesus are promised a crown for a reward at the end of our life. Let us endure and continue forward - faithful to the end - and then we will be awarded our crown! Do you have a crown waiting for you? You do if you belong to Jesus. He's waiting...

Lessons From The Pea Patch: Part 3

    August 12, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Pea picking time is exciting to me. I stood at the end of the patch when I planted it and asked God to provide a harvest. As I bent over to pick peas, I thanked Him for providing. Some of the peas were hanging right out in the open and plump and long. As I moved the vines around, occasionally I would find some pods that were not receiving direct sunlight. They were in the shadow of the leaves. Those pods were pale in color and underdeveloped. They just couldn't mature without the light. So it is with Christians. If we live in the shadow of sin, we can't mature as we should. We must "walk in the light, as He is in the light" if we expect to develop and mature as a Christian! If you are a Christian and you are struggling along and not maturing, cast off the sin and surrender to Jesus! He's waiting...

Lessons From The Pea Patch: Part 2

    August 5, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

It was quite interesting to watch the pea vines and branches develop and then blooms started appearing on the plant. I knew it wouldn't be long until little pods started forming. So exciting to see tiny pods appear and then watch as they grew longer and bigger as the days passed. And then the day comes - time to gather the harvest! But you know, if I hadn't gone back at harvest time, those peas would have just wasted and decayed. What a shame it would be to not put forth the effort to harvest. I thought about what Jesus said as recorded in John 4, "Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest." He was not talking about peas - He was talking about people who needed to hear a witness of His saving grace! Are you sharing Jesus with people? Commit to do that. Ask Jesus to lead you to be an effective witness for Him. He's waiting...

Lessons From The Pea Patch: Part 1

    July 29, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When I planted peas I dropped 3 to 4 individual pea seeds in each place. I planted 6 rows about 30 feet long. So that put 30-35 of the little seed groupings in each row. Very interesting what happened. From each of those places where I planted seeds, there emerged at least one sprout. As the days passed, I observed the sprout develop tiny leaves. Then a vine started growing and it grew longer and longer. The leaves grew nearly as big as my hand. From the vine little branches developed and increased in size and on these branches grew the pods of peas. I did the planting and cultivating and watched as the plants grew and produced peas and I still could hardly believe what had happened! So amazing. I thought - that is what the Lord was talking about when He said, "I am the vine, ye are the branches: he that abideth in Me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit." Is your life producing fruit for God's glory? Are you abiding in Him? He's waiting...

    HOT!

    July 22, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The weather in the South has been dangerously hot. My Grandma used to say, "It's hot as a pepper puddin'." I read the other day on social media someone said, "God, whatever You are baking in the South - it's done. Please turn down the heat!" Funny! I have heard people say, "It's hot as hell." That's NOT funny. Someone who will say that simply cannot understand what they are saying. From the description, hell is a horrible place. Not only fire and extreme heat, but tortures of various kinds. Before I met Jesus and accepted His offer of grace, I would say things like that. I didn't know the seriousness of my statement. Hell is a place to stay away from; and there is only one way to avoid it - trust in the Lord Jesus. Have you trusted Him? He's waiting...

    HURRY!

    July 15, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

There are so many demands on our time. I guess you have noticed? It seems the word we hear and/or say most often is "HURRY!" We hurry to get ready, we leave in a hurry, we hurry to where we are going, we hurry through why we are there and hurry to leave so we can hurry to get somewhere else. At the professional level of stock car racing, a crew of five can change four tires and fill a 22 gallon fuel tank in 12-15 seconds - SECONDS! Hurry, hurry, HURRY! I can see where speed is necessary in some circumstances. The problem arises when we try to hurry when God is dealing with us. It seems we have allowed so many things to demand our time, we struggle to have time for God; or we just skip that altogether. We will learn, maybe too late for some, that is a mistake. Time with God is a necessity. God's Word tells us, "Be still and know that I am God." We must take time to do that; even if it means letting go of something else. Are you willing? He's waiting...

    Freedom

    July 1, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I suppose most folks have heard the expression "Freedom Isn't Free." I hope you have considered what the phrase is saying. Have you considered what life would be like if freedom was lost? Have you considered what our freedom costs? It certainly isn't free. A real eye opener for me when I took time to think about it. And then my thoughts turned to spiritual freedom. It seems, as evidenced by their lives, that many people are living free but are struggling in bondage to sin, and yet the debt for spiritual freedom has been paid. Jesus settled the sin debt a long time ago. As we in America celebrate our independence and freedom this week, may we declare our dependence on Christ and celebrate complete freedom in Him!  He's waiting...

    AMAZING

    June 24, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

A lot of things interest me. A few things I wonder about, and some things amaze me. More than once an object has found it's way into a tire on my vehicle - nail, tack and most recently a screw. The result is always the same - a flat tire. I wonder how in the world can a nail or tack or more especially a screw, which is threaded, be lying flat on the road and when my tire rolls over it, it sticks into my tire. It would be difficult to deliberately push those objects into a tire - and yet it happens. Amazing. Good thing is that I don't have to understand it - I just get the tire repaired. On a much more serious level - but still in the category of wonder and amazement - I wonder how the holy and righteous God can love me and why He was willing to give His own Son as the ransom sacrifice for my sins?!! AMAZING! I am certainly glad and thankful that I don't have to understand it to receive His grace and pardon. Hallelujah! Neither do you have to understand it - just believe and receive. He's waiting...

    Father

    June 17, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

A father who loves his children wants the best for them. He will plan and strive to provide for his children and work to meet their needs. A good father will be an example for his children so they can actually see how life should be lived. He will be their guide and counselor along the way. He will correct and discipline as the child's behavior dictates. Always his heart overflows with love. God is the perfect Father to all who have become His children through faith in the Lord Jesus. He is, to all who believe, our Heavenly Father - the perfect provider, example, guide, counselor, and disciplinarian! Is God your Heavenly Father? He wants to be. He's waiting...

    What Do You See?

    June 10, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

It's interesting how two people can be looking in the same direction and see different things. When my wife and I are traveling we will look at a house and she will see the color of the door or the flowers in the yard and I will see an old truck under a tree. It all depends on what we are looking for. I was asked recently why is it that people can't see that God is in control? Simple. They are not looking for Him. God is working all around us - all the time! If we fail to see God at work, it's because we are not looking for Him. The word "behold" is found in the bible 1298 times. It's time we take a look and see what great things God is doing. Let us ask God to help us to be able to see His work and respond in a way that will bring Him glory. He's waiting...

    Stayed by Grace

    June 3, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I took a few days off recently and went on a vacation trip. Before we left I mowed the grass and my wife watered the flowers. When we returned the grass needed mowing again and the flowers had wilted and needed water. I wasn't surprised. Nothing stayed the same. Then I thought how glad I am that my remaining a child of God is not dependent on me! I am saved by grace and STAYED by grace - kept by the power of God. Hallelujah! How about you? He's waiting...

    The Fallen

    May 27, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I, along with millions of other Americans, celebrate Memorial Day this week. The special day when we recognize those who gave their lives so we can live free. They are memorialized in numerous honorable ways - as they should be. It's a sad day, and yet a glad day. There is one who gave his life who stands out from all the rest. He also died that we can live free - and not just for now - but forevermore. We don't memorialize him - we REMEMBER him - and celebrate him because although he died, he arose from the grave and is alive forevermore! Hallelujah! His name? Jesus. Let us memorialize the fallen heroes with the honor they deserve, but let us celebrate the risen, living Savior! He's waiting...

    The End?

    May 20, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I am aware of the violence and tragedy in the world. As I hear the reports of disasters, some natural and some man made, and tragedies of violence my heart is heavy. I have people ask, "How is it going to end?" I do have an answer to that question. It will all end quickly with the return of Christ! Then I think - that will only be the end of time as we know it. Quicker than the blink of an eye time will end and eternity comes in! So the more important question is not how is it going to end, but where will you spend eternity?! If your trust is in Jesus, the end of time is great good news for you. If your trust is not in Jesus, the end of disaster in this world is only the beginning of disaster for you. Don't let that happen. The way is prepared and the end is coming. Trust Jesus today. He's waiting. ..

    Let's Make Lemonade

    May 13, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When I harvested my sugar cane crop last fall the root system, known as stubble, remained in the ground. Barring any problems the root system, or stubble, will sprout and a new growth of sugar cane comes in the Spring. There was trouble. The Winter was cold enough for long enough that the stubble froze and so - no Spring growth. Now what? I plowed the soil and planted peas, corn, butter beans and tomatoes! The old saying is, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." In this case the frozen stubble was the lemons and planting a vegetable garden is the lemonade. God's word puts it this way - "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose." But what about making syrup in the Fall if there is no sugar cane crop? I will cross that bridge when I get to it. The Lord will provide what I need. Not all things that happen are good, but if we let Him, God will work in all things to bring good. Will you trust God to work in all things for you? He's waiting.

    SPLAT!

    May 6, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recently I backed my truck out of the shed to run some errands. The sun hit the windshield and I could hardly see because of the dust and bugs on the glass. I got out and got a pail of water and a scrubber. After a few minutes of scrubbing the windshield was clean. I got in and drove off. Not much more than 5 miles of driving and a big yellow bug targeted my windshield - SPLAT! And you might guess where it hit - right in my line of vision. I had about an hour to drive and after about 15 minutes I pulled over to clean the windshield again. I couldn't stand that distraction on the glass any longer. So it is with Unconfessed Sin in your life. Unconfessed Sin is always before you and impeding your line of vision. Why not ask God to forgive you, so you can see clearly His plan again? He's waiting...

    The Trailblazer

    April 29, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I love the Smoky Mountains. I never get tired of driving on those twisting mountain roads and seeing the breathtaking scenery. For a long time I wondered how in the world did they figure out where to put the roads! Then I learned that the people who built the roads followed the trails made by animals. The animals had blazed a trail and beaten a path up and around the mountains. Makes sense to me. Otherwise, how could the people have found their way? Have you ever thought of Jesus as our Trailblazer? He goes before us and shows us the way. If we don't follow Him, we at best will stumble along and end up somewhere we don't want to be. I choose to follow Jesus. How about you? He's waiting...

    Convenience

    April 22, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I think about what my parents and others of their generation called "the good old days," and I figure the good thing is that those days have passed! Only a fireplace for heat in the winter. No air conditioning in the summer. Walk or ride a horse to go somewhere - and where was there to go? If you did go somewhere, what was there to do when you got there? I like convenience. Set a thermostat and there is a climate controlled environment. Get in a comfortable vehicle and drive to see any number of attractions. Yes, and the older I get the more valuable conveniences become. God knows how we are and how much we like conveniences. I suppose that is why He made becoming a Christian so convenient. Think about it. You can't buy salvation. You can't do enough to merit salvation. Everything is done and in place. All you do is call on the name of the Lord. Convenient. Have you done it? He's waiting...

    I'm In Love

    April 15, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

In my humble opinion one of the grandest things, maybe THE grandest thing, is to be in love. I believe that to be one of the basic needs of mankind - to love and be loved. The only negative thing about being in love is that the person might, for some reason, stop loving. A person has the potential to be in love today and out of love tomorrow. That's why I'm thankful that God is not in love with me - God loves me. Let me say it again; God is not " in love " with me - God LOVES me! I will honestly admit that I don't fully understand God and His love. I'm so relieved that I don't have to understand in order to receive. God loves me. He doesn't love me for what I am. He just loves me. He doesn't need me - He loves me! And so it is with you. God is NOT in love with you - God LOVES you! Have you accepted God? Are you allowing God to love you - as only He can? Embrace

    April 8, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Several years ago my wife planted an azalea a few feet from a cedar tree at our place. The azalea never has bloomed much. It grew fine, but never had many blooms. The cedar continued to grow too, and now the azalea is nestled right against it. This year the bush is loaded with fine, healthy pink flowers! I look at that arrangement every day with amazement. It's as if the azalea needed that cedar to embrace it before it could bloom. So it is with us and God. We need God's embrace so we can burst forth with beauty that only comes from Him. God is close to you today. Allow Him to embrace you. He's waiting...

    Get Away From Here!

    April 1, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was outdoors recently and saw something pretty interesting. There was a hawk soaring overhead and three crows approached and started attacking him. That's right! The crows were attacking the hawk! I understand the hawk to be a predator and the crow is not. I watched as the hawk darted and swooped and screeched. The maneuvering was amazing and the assault relentless. In just a short time the hawk streaked away and the crows calmed down. Do you know that Satan is a predator? And you are the one he is after! Listen to this good news - if you resist the devil, he will flee from you! Why don't you do that now? Call on Jesus and in His name resist the devil. He's waiting...

    Give Me Your Attention

    March 25, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

If you watch television, you have surely noticed that when a commercial comes on the volume increases. There is a reason - it is to get your attention. The advertiser has a message for you to listen to. What happens next is up to you. You can either listen to the message - or not. God often has a message for you. He will use something to get your attention. He got Elijah's attention with a great wind, an earthquake and a fire. God got Moses' attention with a bush that was burning but not consumed by the flames. Elijah and Moses had options. They could listen to the message God had for them - or not. They listened to God's message and benefited from it. God will get your attention. You have options. You can listen to the message - or not. Choose to listen - you won't regret it. He's waiting.

    God is Able

    March 18, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recently I had an appointment and spent some time in a waiting room. I saw a dozen or so people in that room - all different and with different needs. One was apparently a sales representative. She came in at a brisk pace and whisked through the room. I remember thinking how stressed she looked. Another person entered with a limp and pain etched her face. Another was rolled into the room in a wheelchair. In just a few minutes I witnessed so many different needs. Then I saw a Bible on a rack in the corner of the room. My mind was put at ease as I thought, "God is able to meet ALL needs." I silently spoke with God and prayed that those people would allow Him to meet their needs. Have you asked God to meet your needs? He's waiting...

    It Came To Pass

    March 11, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

There are Bible verses that are special, even precious, to me. There is one phrase that, to me, stands out from all the rest - "it came to pass." Think of it - "it came to pass" - not to stay. When sickness comes, claim the promise that it came to pass - not to stay. Whenever there is adversity, claim the promise that it came to pass - not to stay. There is more, however, to the concept. Not only bad things come to pass - the good things don't last either. And the most sobering thought is about your life. It also came to pass - not to stay. Every experience, whether bad or good, comes and passes. And with those experiences, so passes your life. Make sure your faith and trust is in God. Your relationship with God will bring less suffering from the bad things, greater pleasure from the good things and a reward at the end of your life. Is your heart right with God? He's waiting.

    Stay In Touch

    March 4, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When driving an automobile it is certainly important for the driver to pay attention; to be aware of others, obstacles in the road and especially to the signs along the roadway. Failure to be observant may result in a rough trip and may even mean disaster. As we live our lives it is important to be aware of the same things - those around us, obstacles in our path and signs along the way. To be unaware of others may mean a missed time of fellowship or an opportunity to help our neighbors. To be unaware of obstacles can get us off track. To be unaware of signs can mean a wasted life. When we are in touch with God, He helps us relate to others, avoid and/or negotiate the obstacles and navigate by the signs He has given. In our vehicles and in life, it pays to slow down and be aware. Slow down today and get in touch with God. He's waiting...

    Basking

    February 25, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My cat is very cautious and especially if he senses some sort of threat. He sits with his ears perked and eyes alert. One morning recently I stepped outside and although the air was cool and crisp, the sun was shining bright and warm. I noticed my cat and at first I was somewhat alarmed. He wasn't in his usual state of awareness. He was stretched out on his back and not moving a muscle. I eased closer to him and he raised his head. His eyes were sleepy and his ears relaxed. He felt secure and had no sense of a threat. He was basking in the warmth of the sun. I thought how relaxed and comfortable he looked. Then I thought how that is like a person who is in fellowship with God. Though there are dangers and threats all around, when the person is in fellowship with God, there is a real security and peace and the person can bask in the warmth of God's love. Do you have such fellowship with God? You can. He's waiting...

    One at a Time

    February 18, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

After brutally cold weather in January, the temperature warmed up in February enough so I was able to go outdoors. It felt good to be out and about. I suppose I was so excited to be outside, I started picking up limbs and raking a few leaves! Across the fence in the edge of the woods there were briers growing that I had planned for a long time to cut down. These were not just ordinary briers. These were brier vines. Some of them more than 25 feet long and as big as my thumb. And not just a few. There were hundreds of them growing in clusters so long and thick that they were overpowering some smaller trees. I decided today is the day. The briers had to go. With lopping shears in hand I started snipping. My wife came along during the process and said, "I believe you have taken on too much of a job. How will you ever get all those briers cleared away?" My answer - "One at a time. " So I snipped and cut - one brier vine at a time - and the small trees that drooped under a canopy of briers were freed from their burden. So with life. If we walk, we do it one step at a time. And as we live, we live one day at a time. God designed us that way - one step, one day at a time. Try living your life that way and ask the Lord to help you. He's waiting...

    I Didn't Get That

    February 11, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My oldest son will sometimes say, "I don't get that," in response to certain instructions. Fair enough - there are some things that I don't "get. " One of my greatest fears as a preacher is having someone misunderstand what I say. It has happened. Thankfully the person who misunderstood approached me and the misunderstanding was quickly straightened out. I'm convinced many conflicts are started by a simple misunderstanding. That is why when God wanted to relay the greatest and most important message to mankind, He used all one syllable words. Recorded in First John 5:12 are these words from God - "He that hath the Son hath life; and he who hath not the Son of God hath not life." Difficult to misunderstand that, isn't it? What have you done about it? He's waiting...

    Hesitation

    February 2, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When I need to go to town, I exit my driveway and drive a short distance on a county road. I then intersect a state aid road and drive on it for about two miles. At the end of that two miles, I intersect a state highway - a very busy and heavily traveled highway. I have a saying when I get to that intersection - "If you hesitate, you wait." I must be ready to react. If there is enough break in the traffic, even if it's not the break I would like, I must GO!! If I hesitate - I wait. So it is in many areas of life. If a batter hesitates - the baseball goes past. If a quarterback hesitates - the defender can get into position. If the employee hesitates - the promotion may go to someone else. And on it goes. Hesitation alters the direction of our lives. The hesitation with the greatest impact is when you hesitate to respond to God's call. Every day God calls. If you hesitate, it will alter the direction of your life. Too much hesitation with God will even alter your eternity. God has called. Are you hesitating? He's waiting...

    That Makes Me Cringe

    January 28, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Some things trouble me - a few things make me cringe. For example, when asked, "What are you up to?" some people will respond, "Not much, just killing time. " Just killing time?! Please don't do that! We don't have one minute to kill. Every moment we have is precious and each moment we waste is a moment gone forever. I have heard people say, "If I could just go back in time . . . " You know you can't go back, but you can start today living each moment to its fullest. Surrender to the Lord today and commit your time to Him. He's waiting...

    NO WATER?!!

    January 21, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Did you ever hear the saying, "You never miss the water until the well runs dry?" My well didn't run dry, however, during the coldest days and nights of winter part of the plumbing in our house froze. Yikes! Thankfully we had water at some faucets. Even more thankfully there were no broken pipes. I have thanked the Lord numerous times for the water since it came back on. Then I wondered - how many other blessings of the Lord do I take for granted? I realized that I don't spend nearly enough time thanking God for His provision. I believe I will pause now and offer gratitude to Him. How about you? He's waiting...

    APPOINTMENT

    January 14, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The word "appointment" is defined as "an arrangement to meet someone at a particular time and place. " Everyone I know has had an appointment at one time or another. Sometimes the one we are scheduled to meet is late. Sometimes we are late for the appointment ourselves. Some appointments must be rescheduled and some canceled. It is pretty amazing how much of our time is spent making, changing and maybe even canceling appointments. There is one appointment we have that won't be changed or canceled. The One we will meet will be on time and we will be too. We all have an appointment with God. It seems there are many people who rarely give that any thought. An appointment with God. How does that make you feel? Since Jesus is my Savior, I don't dread that appointment. To be able, as the hymnist wrote "to look upon His face, the One Who saved me by His grace; what a day, wonderful day that will be. " We all will meet God. Let Him prepare you for that appointment. Accept His offer of grace. He's waiting.

    ACCUMULATION

    January 7, 2018 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The wintry weather has dealt some harsh blows to our nation for the past several days. Ice and snow have caused serious problems. Under the weight of ice, tree branches snap, power lines break and some roof tops collapse. If left to accumulate on the wings ice can become so heavy that powerful jet planes are unable to get the lift needed to fly. Amazing how some things, when allowed to accumulate, can hinder movement and even bring some things to a halt. So it is with sin in our lives. If sin is left alone and allowed to accumulate, it will slow the progress of the person and even bring life to a halt. Are you laboring under a load of accumulated sin? Do you know there is a cure? His name is Jesus and He wants to remove that sin burden so you can live - truly live. Why not trust Him and allow Him to restore your life? He's waiting...

    How Does It Look?

    December 31, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I sat looking out the window at such a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the sky was clear - looked like the perfect conditions to be outside doing something. But I knew better, because earlier I had been outside breaking the ice from the surface of the water in the tub my goats drink water from. The temperature was 17 degrees - ouch! Things are not always what they appear to us to be. Maybe that's why we are sometimes slow to respond favorably to what God says. Sometimes the evidence we see does not work out in our minds to match what God is telling us. But you know what? God has a perfect record at being right! So whatever He tells me to do, I am way ahead when I do it - no matter what the evidence says. I will say that's not easy - but it's not meant to be easy. I must accept God's way by faith and I always benefit when I do. How about you? Do you hesitate when God gives you instructions for living? Stop trying to live by how things look to you and ask God for the faith to do His bidding. You won't regret it. He's waiting...

    Good Gifts

    December 24, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

We listen for hints and clues. We make mental notes about items of interest. We shop for that item which we have decided is the "one." We make the purchase and carefully wrap the item and present it to the recipient at the appointed time. We watch excitedly as the package is unwrapped and anxiously await the response. There is delight and satisfaction in giving a carefully selected gift that the recipient truly wants! Do you know that God knows our every need and bestows gift after gift upon us? He does. Just as we get satisfaction from an appropriate gift that is well received, so does He! Take a moment to acknowledge God and show Him appreciation for His generous gifts. He's waiting...

    Line Up!

    December 17, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recently the Brotherhood group at our church had a work day to rake leaves and clean up the grounds. Some of the ladies came and brought the makings for sandwiches. We all worked and ate and had good fellowship. It was a great good day. While outside I heard a goose honking, so naturally I looked skyward to see the geese. Sure enough, they flew over and one goose honked - and honked again. I watched as the geese lined up in a "V" formation. I figured the goose doing the honking was giving instructions to the other geese and they heard his voice and responded - they lined up and off they went. I thought about what Jesus said as recorded in the Gospel according to John. We are His sheep (people) and when we hear His voice we line up and follow Him. I figure those geese, by lining up, cut the wind resistance and were able to fly more efficiently and easily. I don't know that for sure about geese, but I do know when I hear Jesus' voice and line up with Him, I am able to live my life more efficiently and easily. How about you? Have you heard Jesus' voice and lined up with Him? He's waiting...

    Joy to the World!

    December 10, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I started hearing them again recently and my heart became glad - Christmas songs! Hallelujah! The Christmas season is here. I love the classic, timeless songs of the Christmas season - Silent Night, Away In A Manger, O Holy Night and many others. One month of the year we sing the songs with such pleasure and then put them away until the next Christmas season. There is one Christmas song that I believe could be sung appropriately every day of the year - Joy To The World. Just think of it - the Lord has come! AMEN - joy to the world - not just at Christmas, but EVERY day. Is your life one of love and peace and joy? That's the reason for Christmas. Jesus came so we might have eternal life and live our lives with love and peace and joy. Haven't you accepted His offer? Why not do that now? He's waiting...

    Walk With Me

    December 3, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My wife and I were watching a couple with a young child walking. She asked me if I had noticed how a child walks. She said that a child can't just walk along; but skips and spins and hops and runs ahead of the parent. It's true. A child can't just walk along with the parent. A caring watchful parent will call the child back and keep him close so as to protect him from harm. But without fail, the child starts the skipping and spinning and running away from the parent again. As the child listens and matures, he learns that the parent is only trying to lead and protect and direct him along the best path. So it is with our walk with God, our Heavenly Father. In our immaturity we skip and spin and run ahead of Him. He - being the ultimate caring and watchful "Parent" - calls us back to Him and keeps us close to protect us and show us the best path! Where are you in your walk with God? Are you walking with Him? If not - listen - He's calling you to come back to Him! Won't you return to God and walk with Him again? He's waiting...

    Anxiously Waiting

    November 26, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

At regular intervals a delivery truck pulls up to our house and the driver places the package on our porch. He does that every three months to deliver study materials for the church. If I am at home at the time I just look out the window to confirm that is what's happening. No big deal. On the other hand, if I have ordered a specific special item I anxiously wait for the delivery. Especially this time of year when people are ordering Christmas gifts there is an anxious awaiting for the arrival of the package. When the guaranteed date for delivery arrives we keep a close watch out for the arrival of our package. Do you know the Lord is going to return one day? He is. We don't have a guaranteed date for His arrival, but we do have the promise of His return. We should be anxiously waiting for His return at any time! Is your heart prepared for His return? Are you ready? Why not look to Him now? He's waiting...

    Syrup Season

    November 22, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The time has arrived! The season I make syrup out of sugar cane. I love going to the cane mill on a cool fall morning and grinding the juice from the cane and cooking the juice into pure cane syrup. Very satisfying - and GOOD! One of the delights is drinking some of the juice after it is squeezed from the sugar cane. I tried to keep some of the juice one time to drink over an extended period of time. I learned that cane juice has a very short shelf life. Even refrigerated the juice goes bad pretty quickly; but when it's heated and boiled, the impurities cook out and the syrup that is produced will keep indefinitely. So it is with us. If left unchanged we have a very short life span; but when we allow Jesus to transform us, we last indefinitely! Have you allowed Jesus to apply His grace to your life? Have you allowed Him to remove the impurities from you? He's waiting...

    Gathering

    November 12, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Our youngest grandson recently had his first birthday. Wow! It's been a long time since my first birthday . . . anyway, we had a gathering of family and friends to celebrate. The grandson had a great time playing and all else a one year old does. He won't remember it, but I will. It was a great good day. I sat back and watched as people visited and laughed. Great good day. I started thinking about the family members and friends who were not present because they had long since celebrated their last birthday on this earth. I miss them; but knowing the promise of the Lord, I know they are safe with Him. And having received eternal life myself, I know when this time has ended we will have an even greater gathering. Hallelujah! I'm sure you are separated for now from some family and friends. Aren't you thankful to be able to look forward to being with them again?! He's waiting for you - with them...

    Have A God Day!

    November 5, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

"Have a good day" is a phrase we hear quite often. Do you know you can't have a bad day? You can't. God makes every day and He is not going to make something bad and give it to you. So why does it seem some days are good and some are bad? We are actually attributing the events of the day to how we see the day. It is true that not everything we encounter is good, but bad experiences do not make a bad day. As a matter of fact, God is willing and able to bless us even in bad experiences if we love Him - and let Him. So instead of wishing for a good day, how about having a God day? He's waiting...

    A Noticeable Difference

    October 29, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The time is drawing near when I will make syrup out of sugar cane - Lord willing. I started harvesting the cane today. Some of it had been blown over earlier in the season by winds from hurricane Harvey. There was a noticeable difference in the cane that had blown over and that which had not. The cane not blown over was straight and t all. The wind-damaged cane was crooked and bent over and smaller. When it blew over, it went into survival mode and didn't continue to grow. It was doing all it could to just survive. It's flourishing time was over. That's one way sin affects our lives. When there is unconfessed sin, we stop growing and flourishing spiritually. We exist - but only in survival mode. Unlike the cane that couldn't do anything about its dilemma, we can change our outcome! We can repent and ask God to forgive us and the sin that hinders our growth is gone. We can truly live - not just survive. Are you truly living today? Wouldn't you like to? Sure you would! Ask God to forgive you and cleanse you. He's waiting...

    Do You Hear Me?!

    October 22, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When our children were young my wife or I would tell them something to do - or not to do. If the child didn't respond our next statement was, "Do you hear me?!" It's amazing how many "old sayings" I remember and how they are usually quite applicable to now. For example I remember someone saying, "The Good Lord gave us two ears and one mouth so it is clear He wants us to listen twice as much as we talk!" Even more amazing is how many "old sayings" are biblically based. When Peter experienced the transformation of Jesus, he got excited and wanted to build some tabernacles. That seems to me to be a pretty good idea; but God interrupted Peter's plan with these instructions: "This is My Beloved Son - hear Him." Before we spring into action, we need to first hear from Him who has the perfect plan for us. Have you listened to God lately? Why not stop and inquire of Him instructions for your day? He's waiting...

    A Glimpse

    October 15, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Very often I will be looking at something and my peripheral vision will detect motion and my attention will be drawn in the direction of the motion. I say that I caught a glimpse of something in the corner of my eye. Sometimes I will be driving or walking along and the same thing happens - I catch a glimpse of something. Sometimes I will investigate to see what caught my attention - sometimes I just pass it off and keep going. There is one glimpse that certainly deserves our further investigation - a glimpse of God! God gets our attention from time to time by showing us a glimpse of His glory. He wants us to stop and take a closer look. I have never been disappointed when I stop and take a closer look at God's ways. God has shown you a glimpse of His glory. Did you stop to take a closer look? It's not too late. He's waiting...

    Directions

    October 8, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

In order to arrive at a destination we are not familiar with, we are given directions. It's funny when I think about the methods of giving directions and how those methods have changed through the years. I have been told things like, "Well you go about 2 miles and you'll come to a mailbox mounted on a wagon wheel. Just beyond that is a big tree with a limb shaped like a Y. Take the next left." Then there was the fun with maps - big paper fold-out maps. You had reached a milestone of maturity when you could refold the map to it's original shape! Now I put the address of the desired destination in my GPS device and drive while the lady's voice speaks directions to me from the dash of my vehicle. Directions are essential to arriving at our destination. They are our guide in our travels that help us stay on the right route. We have available to us a most important set of directions - the Bible - the Word of God. Therein we find directions for living successfully and dying victoriously. Have you looked at God's directions lately? Seek Him in His Word and listen for His voice to speak directions to you. He's waiting...

    Moving On?

    October 1, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

At age 26 I started college and received the B.A. degree after three years of study. I was so impressed with my professors; so much so that I decided to continue my theological training and become a professor. In July 1984 I moved my wife and two small children to Louisville, Kentucky to pursue that career choice. We were moving on! We were miserable. What could be wrong? I was doing exactly what I chose to do. That was the problem - I chose - just kinda left God out of the plan. He had called me to be a preacher and I had been preaching/pastoring for four years before my decision to "move on." What an error - moving on - but the Lord provided, as He always does when we seek Him, and we moved to northern Kentucky - to do what? Preach and pastor a church! I repented of moving on with my life without God's leadership. I have now been pastoring over 37 years and hoping for many more. I'm very thankful that I learned to ALWAYS seek the Lord - in ALL things! Do you know that God has a plan for your life? He does. Do you know that you can't be satisfied and blessed with anything except God's plan for you? You can't. Why not stop and take a look at your life. Are you living according to God's plan for you? Seek Him today and trust Him. He won't disappoint you. He's waiting...

    I Could Hardly Wait!

    September 25, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

For years I went along in my life with always a look to a time that was ahead. For example, I could hardly wait until I was old enough to get my driver's license. I could hardly wait to finish high school. I could hardly wait to finish college - and so on. I was 32 years old when my eyes were opened to what was happening to me. I was passing through life and not really living life because I was always waiting on "this" to happen or "that" to happen. I finally started listening to God's word and heard phrases like "give us this day our daily bread"; "don't worry about tomorrow" and the one which made a great difference for me - "this is the day which the LORD hath made: we will rejoice and be glad in it." All about today, the present, the here and now! Those verses helped me to realize that my life is happening right now - I had to stop waiting until sometime in the future to start living. Thank the Lord now I live my life each day. There's nothing wrong with making plans for the future, but we need to see the value of today and live our lives to the fullest. The only way to do that is to surrender to the Lordship of Christ Jesus - every day! Are you living life, really living it today? Why not surrender to His Lordship today - and LIVE!! He's waiting...

    Let's Take A Break

    September 17, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

As I sat looking out my window this morning, I saw several yellowing leaves mixed in with the green. Some leaves have already given up their grip and fallen to the ground. The grass is not growing nearly as fast as it was. These and several other signs indicate that autumn is near. The time of year when nature starts slowing down and soon will become dormant. A time to rest. There is nothing quite like taking a break after a time of exertion. A time to rest and be refreshed. As we live our lives we experience joys and stress and troubles. As time goes along we reach a point where we need rest - physically and spiritually. Jesus knows this. He guided His first followers to a quiet place to rest. He invites all to come to Him and He will give rest. In the very beginning of time, at the conclusion of creation, even God rested. One of the best things you can do for yourself is rest and be refreshed - physically and spiritually. Take a break and while you are on break, hear His call to come unto Him. He's waiting.

    I Wonder Why?

    September 10, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I'm not one to question God's ways. I do sometimes wonder why things happen as they do and why certain things exist in this world. For example ants, wasps and mosquitoes. I am one among many who battle those creatures and every time I get stung and/or bit I wonder why such things exist. There must be a purpose. Then one day I was reading the Bible and lo and behold there it was recorded in Proverbs - consider the ways of the ant! So I considered the ways of the ant - not in a studious way - just considered. Even a casual consideration of the ant reveals much about God's plan for us. Ants work together and there are certain tasks performed by certain ants. And work they do! A more industrious creature I am hard pressed to find. Resilience is a great understatement for the ant. Don't get me wrong - I still battle to keep the ants in check - and as for wasps and mosquitoes - I'm still wondering what they are good for! However, I have learned to take a closer look at things before concluding that there is nothing of value to be learned, and I'm trying to be patient and let God work in things and reveal His plan. How about you? Will you seek the Lord in your times of sorry or struggles or bewilderment? Will you trust Him and believe that He knows what's best? He's waiting.

    Bent But Not Broken

    September 3, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Hurricane Harvey was catastrophic to some areas of the U.S. In my area we received some nice rain and not such nice wind. Thankfully our place didn't sustain much damage; but my sugar cane is a different story. The cane had grown to about 10 feet tall and the fodder was full. Standing straight and tall it looked so good! Then strong sustained winds with stronger gusts hit. Well - sugar cane just can't take it. A big portion of it was laid down - bent but not broken. In time the calm weather and nice warmth of the sunshine will do wonders with that cane. It will start turning upward and stand up again. There will, however, be a tell-tale crook in the stalk much like the shape of a candy cane. But the inside of the stalk is not damaged. It's still the pulp with the sweet juice. So barring any other disasters that would destroy the cane, come November I will be able to squeeze the juice from the stalks and then cook the juice into syrup. I got to thinking as I looked at the cane after the storm and thought how much that is like our lives as a Christian! We can be standing tall and upright today and a storm of life hits us and we bend under the pressure. Just as the cane, our life may outwardly show the impact of life's storm, but inside we are the same. As the calm of God's presence and the warmth of His love caresses us, we will stand upright again. Thank You Lord for Your provision! Do you need to stop and experience the calm and warmth of God's love? He's waiting...

    The Lesser

    August 27, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I waited with great anticipation to see the solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. I wasn't disappointed as the event took place - literally right before my eyes! With special glasses I was able to watch as the moon began to move between me and the sun and was able to impact the affect the sun had on me - amazing! From my viewing area there was an 83% eclipse. The sunlight wasn't completely blocked, but there was a noticeable change. The sunlight seemed filtered or dim. The most amazing thing to me was there was no heat! The sun was shining but the moon was interfering with it's normal impact. As the eclipse started to wane, the sunlight returned to normal and I could feel the warmth again. As I pondered that magnificent event, I thought that for a little while the lesser (the moon) caused a significant change in how the greater (the sun) impacted me. I'm glad the lesser did not prevail. So it is with Jesus, satan and me. When satan (the lesser) moves between Jesus (the greater) and me, I don't feel the full impact of Jesus (the SON) in my life. But when I resist satan and he flees from me, the light and warmth of Jesus once again floods my soul! Hallelujah! What a comfort and reassurance to know that the lesser will not prevail - whether it's the moon or satan. Have you surrendered yourself to Jesus so you can experience the fullness of His grace? He's waiting...

I went to a friend's house one day in mid August. We had traded some farm equipment. I delivered mine and he and I unloaded the equipment and loaded what I had traded for. It took us a couple of hours in the hot August afternoon. Funny, now that I think about it, he and I seem to do our trading in July or August - might need to rethink that. Anyway, after we finished we went inside his house and got a cold soda pop. Whew - that hit the spot! I keep fresh water out for my goats and cat. The cat visits the dish and laps the refreshing water. The goats don't lap - they suck up the water like a vacuum cleaner. At any rate they get a drink of the refreshing liquid. Do you know that God has instilled in us a desire for Him that can only be satisfied by Him? Try as we might we will never satisfy that desire for God with anything or anybody but God. The Psalmist wrote, "As the heart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after Thee, O God." You don't deprive yourself of a refreshing drink when you are physically thirsty. Why deprive yourself of spiritual refreshing? Let God satisfy that desire He placed within you. He's waiting...

    Raising Cane!

    August 13, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever been around someone raising cane? I raise cane - sugar cane! Excuse the play on words. It takes sugar cane from early spring until late fall to mature and be ready to make syrup. And yes, I do make syrup with the cane. The syrup making takes about a half a day - and such fun!  But the cane raising takes a long time and a lot of work. I have to watch closely for morning glories. Funny how I never plant morning glories but they show up every year. If left alone the morning glory develops quickly into a vine that wraps around and around the cane. And would you believe, that vine will twist around the cane fodder (leaves) and strangle the leaves until they cannot flatten out and grow. Left alone, that morning glory will stifle the cane's growth to the point it will be useless for making syrup. Actually if left unattended the cane will die! So it is with sin in our lives. If left alone that sin will grow and wrap us up to the point where we are useless in God's work. Occasionally a morning glory will escape my notice and have a stranglehold on a stalk of cane. It's satisfying to release the grip the morning glory has on the fodder and watch the leaf unfold and stretch itself out! Why don't you confess that sin in your life and allow Jesus to remove it so you can mature and grow spiritually as God wants you to? He's waiting...

    Just Leave It Alone!

    August 6, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have come to the conclusion that it's better to just leave some things alone. Have you ever tried to fold a fitted bed sheet? Wow! I was looking for additional cover one night and found a fitted bed sheet, unfolded it (my wife had folded it) and it wouldn't meet my need for additional cover.  I layed it down and found something else. The next morning I was gonna be a good guy and refold the sheet. I just didn't have the talent to do it. No matter how hard I tried, when I finished my effort the sheet still looked like it was just crumpled up. So I decided to turn it over to more capable hands - aforementioned wife. So it is with trying to rid my life of sin. I am capable of sinning and messing things up, but to straighten it out I have to turn it over to capable hands - of course that would be God. He is the only One Who can remove sin and straighten out the tangled mess I make in my life! No matter how hard I try to rid my life of sin and straighten things out, it ends up looking like a poorly folded fitted bed sheet - crumpled. Are you trying on your own to straighten out your life? Frustrating isn't it? Why don't you turn your life over to the capable hands of God and let Him do for you as only He can? He's waiting...

    Evaporation

    July 30, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

As many of you know, I love hanging laundry on the clothesline outdoors and letting it dry. Of course the longer the clothes hang out in the sunshine, the more water evaporates and the clothes become dry and ready to use again. I have realized something about my life. The longer I am in God's presence and acknowledge His presence, the more sin is revealed and when I confess and repent God removes it. The sin just seems to evaporate away, much like the water evaporates from the clothes the longer they are in the warmth of the sun. And as the clothes are ready for service and use after the water is gone, so my life is ready for service and use after the sin is gone! Have you acknowledged the presence of God lately? Have you let the warmth of His love reveal and cleanse sin from you? Why not do that now? He's waiting...

    I Dare You!

    July 23, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

My favorite movie comes on once a year on Christmas Eve. In one of the scenes one boy is trying to get his friend to try something and he "dares" him to do it. Actually he "triple dog dares" him! Some folks cannot resist a dare, even though most of the time a dare is to try something dangerous and will likely be harmful to the one who attempts it. Do you know God dares you? He does. He doesn't use the word "dare" and the outcome will not be harmful. As a matter of fact if you accept God's dare, you will be blessed above measure! "Prove Me now" God says. Haven't you accepted a dare at some point in your life? You are offered one now - I dare you to accept God's challenge! He's waiting...

    You Missed A Spot

    July 16, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

It's grass mowing season in the South. With plenty of rain, sunshine and warm weather the grass has really been growing. I mow nearly two acres with a 42 inch riding mower, because I enjoy mowing. Mowing brings instant satisfaction. To mow a round and see the fresh cut grass is satisfying to me. However, it seems every time I finish, I can look and find a spot I missed. And of course, if someone comes along, that spot I missed is what they will point out. Even though I successfully mowed the GREAT majority of nearly two acres, they will say, "You missed a spot." Same way with washing a vehicle. Wash the car and leave just a small place unwashed and someone will say, "You missed a spot." I will say, "But look at how much I DIDN'T miss: look at how good all the rest looks!" That doesn't matter - a missed spot still spoils the whole thing. So it is with sin in our lives. Some people evidently think they can live good enough and/or do enough good deeds to be accepted by God. Not so. No matter how much right we do, or how clean we live our lives, we will not be accepted into God's heaven. We must allow Jesus to do the cleansing of us - for us. Only by His cleansing will we be accepted. Please don't be deceived. You may be a good, fine person - but without Jesus - you are doomed. Won't you accept His cleansing today? He's waiting...

    That Tastes So Good!

    July 9, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Ever since our seven year old grandson has been old enough to eat, when offered food he has never tasted, he is very reluctant to taste it. No matter how much we try to persuade him, most of the time he just won't taste something new! We would never offer him something that tastes bad, but still he's just not likely to try it. So it is, it seems, with some folks when you try to speak with them about the Lord. Some are just so reluctant to try His offer of grace. Even though the Bible says "taste and see that the Lord is good" they are reluctant. We who have trusted Him know how good He is! So as with our grandson who is reluctant to taste something new, we keep trying to offer Jesus to those who haven't tried Him. What about you? Have you experienced the Goodness of the Lord? Why not just try Him? You won't regret it. He's waiting...

    What's That I Smell?

    July 2, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When I ask the question, "What's that I smell" my wife just looks at me with somewhat of a scowl. And I get it. I really don't know why I ask it out loud. How can she know what I smell! It seems to me, now that I think about it, that I've always asked that question out loud. As a youngster when I asked it my daddy would ask, "does it smell good or bad?" If I said "good" he figured it was him and if I said "bad" he would say that it was probably my upper lip! You would need to have known my daddy to fully appreciate that. But what about smells? Some are pleasant and some are not. Do you know that's how we are to God? It's true! We are either a good aroma or a bad aroma to God. Do you like bad aromas? Hopefully not. Neither does God. So how can we know which aroma we are to God? Depends entirely if you are in Christ or not - "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ . . . For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ" 2 Corinthians 2:14 & 15. Are you a sweet aroma to God? You are if you are in Christ. Do you need to have your aroma changed? Only God can do that. He's waiting...

    Time To Come In

    June 25, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Most of my childhood time was spent living in a subdivision near Jackson. I remember riding my bicycle and playing with a group of friends and forever more having lots of fun. Back in those days it was fine for kids to play and roam around. I remember in the evening hearing Mama call out, "Eddie - it's time to come in!" I was usually a little reluctant to stop playing and go home. I don't remember ever regretting going home. Supper would be almost ready, and when I got cleaned up I realized that I sure was hungry! So I was very glad that I answered the call to come in. Sometimes now I find myself roaming around in the world - maybe not quite where I need to be in my fellowship with God. And you know, I hear God say, "Eddie - it's time to come in!" As in my childhood days when Mama called, I am sometimes reluctant to heed God's call. But you know, I have never regretted obeying when God calls. I always wonder why I strayed and why am I reluctant to respond to God's call? Just that flesh/spirit battle I suppose. We all deal with that every day - the flesh/spirit battle. Where are you right now in relation to God's plan for you? Is God calling you? Obey Him! You won't regret it. He's waiting...

    Whistling

    June 18, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Can you whistle? Can you whistle a tune? Ever wonder how? I know it's done by blowing in and out across the lips - but, how do you know how to form the lips and blow just hard enough to get different notes? Maybe I am a little simple minded, but that is something I wonder about. It's amazing to me. Something else I wonder about - and it is much more important than whistling - that is how a righteous and holy and all powerful God would even notice someone like me? He not only notices, but pays very close attention to me! Only a very strong love could motivate God to care about me. Amazing - and wonderful. The hymnist, Charles H. Gabriel, said it quite well: "I stand amazed in the presence of Jesus the Nazarene, And wonder how He could love me, a sinner, condemned, unclean. How marvelous! how wonderful! And my song shall ever be. How marvelous! how wonderful is my Savior's love for me!" And I say, "AMEN!" Have you experienced the marvelous, wonderful love of God? He's waiting.

    Once and Done

    June 11, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I looked out the window this morning and noticed the grass in my yard. Didn't I just mow that 3 days ago, I wondered? Yes, 3 days ago. Will need mowing again soon. That's what happens when it's warm weather and raining often. Some things, like mowing grass, can't be done just once and done. It's not that the mowing is not done right, it's just not something that doing it once will take care of. Man was in a similar position before Jesus came. There were rituals to be performed and sacrifices to be made before a person would be right in the eyes of God. But those things didn't last. The rituals and sacrifices had to be done over and over. But then - Jesus came! The sacrifice He made - Himself - only had to be done once. After He was resurrected, He ascended back to the Father and sat down; which indicates His authority. The price for sin is paid. All that is needed is for persons to believe in Him and accept His offer of grace. Have you done that? If so - REJOICE! If not - why not? He's waiting...

    Together Again

    June 4, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

We kept our grandson during the work days each week from the time he was 3 months old until he was 6 months old. We held him and played. We fed him and cared for him. We watched him in his "play land" as I called it - a little structure on the floor, like a crib. We watched him grow and develop and advance in motor skills. We heard the different sounds he made and watched as he seemed to start hearing himself - and he would get louder and louder! Amazing and wonderful. Then, he went with his family on vacation for a week. What a difference at our house! To say we missed him would be a great understatement. Then at the end of vacation week, we were together again. Wonderful! It was so good to hold him and see his bright eyes and hear his little voice again. Then I thought - if I feel so good when I hold him and so sad when he is gone, how  must my Heavenly Father feel when I slip out of His fellowship? God wants to hold me and care for me and watch me develop. How must He feel when I stray from Him! God loves you and feels the same toward you. Where are you today in your fellowship with God? Are you with Him or is He longing for you to return? He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Luke 15:11-24

    Can to Can't

    May 28, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

From can to can't is a pretty tough position to be in. It means the person works and pushes and strives and struggles until they just can't do it anymore. That is especially sad if the person thinks he is serving the Lord and ends up in that condition. It was very liberating when I realized that God doesn't want me doing things for Him. He wants "me" out of the way so He can flow through me. I am a vessel for the Lord! Do you find that "serving" the Lord is a great burden to you? Then you probably should rethink what is really going on. Get yourself out of the way and let God live in you and flow through you. Why don't you stop and seek God in that matter? He's waiting...

    C to C Syndrome

    May 21, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Do you know someone with C to C Syndrome? Or maybe you have it? What is C to C Syndrome? Chin to Chest Syndrome. A person with that walks around and always looks down - maybe even slump shouldered. It looks like their chin is attached to their chest! Usually that person feels dejected, oppressed, burdened or worried. That is not a new thing. The men who actually walked on this earth with Jesus evidently had C to C Syndrome. He had to tell them to look up, don't worry and cast their cares on Him! That invitation is still open to all. So if you have C to C Syndrome, accept His invitation and look up! The view is much better when you look up. He's waiting...

    Come On

    May 14, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

There is something that is so satisfying when a child reaches out for you. Our youngest grandson is 6 months old. I hold out my arms and say, "Come on." When he smiles and reaches for me - nothing better than that! I hold him and hug him and he smiles and does those baby sounds - WOW! It thrills me every time. This morning while I was holding him, I thought how our Heavenly Father must feel when one of His children looks up and smiles at Him. God holds out His arms and says, "Come on." Have you experienced the love and warmth and peace of being held in the arms of God? He's holding out His arms to you - will you pull toward Him? He's waiting...

    Where is the Spider!

    May 7, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Don't you hate it when you get dressed up and step outside to leave and walk into a spider web?! I do. And then my first thought is, "WHERE'S THE SPIDER?!! IS IT ON ME?!" So I knock and thrash and try to get the web off. Usually go to a mirror and look to see if I can find any more web and/or the spider! All the rest of the day it seems there is still some web on me. It takes my mind away from things I should be thinking about. And you know what else? If you don't get rid of the spider, a new web will be built right back. Now think of that web as sin in your life. As long as that sin remains unconfessed, your mind will be distracted from things you should be thinking about - the things of God. Ask God to forgive you and cleanse you. He will. And one more thing - if you don't get rid of the devil, he will have you sinning again. Get rid of him! How? In the Name above all names - Jesus! Call on Jesus today. He's waiting.

    Ohhh Baby!

    April 30, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever been around a baby for any length of time? If you have, you have probably been amazed at how quickly they change. If a person sees a baby and then is apart from it for awhile, the response upon seeing the child again is usually, "My how he/she has grown!" It is very interesting to me to watch how a child develops over time. In the very early stage the baby can hardly move. Just sleeps and eats and makes a little sound now and then. Then they get more active and roll over. Then crawl and walk . . . But you know what really amazes me? How long they are basically helpless! The baby can do nothing for itself. The infant, no change. The young child - not much difference. Then finally, some skills start to emerge. With some guidance the child matures and develops into a productive person. Many people may be involved in the child's development into an adult. We may praise this one or that one for help given along the way. We may even pride ourselves in our achievements. You know who usually goes unrecognized? Jesus. That's right - Jesus. Consider for a moment what Jesus says about Himself recorded in John 15:5, "Without Me you can do nothing." What?! Surely I do things on my own! Nope. Without Jesus you can do NOTHING! Isn't that something! Have you acknowledged Him as you should - as He deserves? He's waiting...

    Wash Day

    April 23, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I love to do laundry. After washing, I take it outside and hang it on the clothesline. There is a satisfaction in seeing the laundry hanging in the sunshine and swaying in a gentle breeze. I love the smell and feel of laundry that has dried outdoors. There is, however, one thing that aggravates me. Yesterday I hung the laundry out and there was a sock missing. How does a sock get lost from the dirty clothes hamper to the washer to the line?! Well, I thought, I'll just have to wait until the next wash day and hope it turns up. Then I got to thinking about the parable that Jesus told about the lost sheep. He told about a man who had a hundred sheep and one went astray. His response about the sheep was not like my response about the sock. He didn't think well, I hope it turns up. No! He stopped all other activity and searched for the sheep until he found it! Now, a parable is an earthly story that teaches a heavenly message. The message of the lost sheep is that Jesus diligently seeks the person who has gone astray. Who is it that He searches for? Who has gone astray? EVERYONE! "We all, like sheep, have gone astray," the bible says. Jesus seeks you to bring you into His care. Will you surrender to Him and let Him care for you? He's waiting...

    Reasonable

    April 16, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Do you consider yourself to be reasonable? To be reasonable means you are sensible and have good judgment. Just think for a moment - when you are considering something to purchase, don't you consider things like: is the item something I really want to purchase; is the item priced fairly; is it good quality? After careful consideration you decide yes or no. That's reasonable. Do you know that God is a reasonable Being and He invites you to sit down and reason together with Him? What does He want to reason about? Your relationship with Him! Sin separates us from God. He wants us to listen to His offer of grace. He wants us to allow Him to cleanse us of all sin and be accepted into His eternal family. He wants us to dwell with Him in heaven when this life is over. Does that sound like a reasonable offer that would benefit you? It sure sounds good to me! Have you accepted His gracious offer? Will you sit down with him and and reason together? He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Isaiah 1:18

    He is waiting...

    April 9, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

He's waiting . . . time is running out. Please don't neglect Him until it's too late.

    April....AHHH!

    April 3, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The mention of April jump-starts our thinking. Spring seems real now; April showers - or in the case of our most recent rain - April deluge, WOW! April . . . Ahhh! But wait - April 15th comes to mind - tax time. April "ahhh" may become April "ohhh." Many of us are called upon by our Uncle Sam to give account of how we conducted our business over the past year. We, if we are smart, keep accurate records and receipts so we can give an accurate account. Don't won't any unpleasant surprises at accounting time. Do you know that not just many of us, but EVERYONE will be called upon to give an account to God about how we conducted our lives? And we just think Uncle Sam is tough! God keeps the record on our lives. I shiver to think about standing before the Righteous Judge to give an account of my life. But wait - I won't have to do that! I have an Advocate - Jesus Christ the Righteous - Who will stand in my place! Thank you Lord! How about you? Have you accepted Jesus' offer to be your Advocate? He's waiting...

    Just Holler! Part 5

    March 26, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Keep praying! Never lose hope. If we pray often and faithfully, God will direct us so we can align with Him. And, thankfully, the Spirit makes intercession for us. So - pray, pray, PRAY! He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Romans 8:26-27

    Just Holler! Part 4

    March 19, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

We need to make sure when we "just holler", we holler - or pray - in Jesus' name. What does that mean? Before we sign our name to a letter, we write "sincerely" or "yours truly" or something like that. "In Jesus' name" is more than what we say just before we say "amen". When we pray in Jesus' name, we pray in His authority. Before we can pray in Jesus' name, we must be cleansed spiritually and surrender to His Lordship. When we pray in Jesus' name, we are seeking that which will bring glory to God. When we pray in Jesus' name - truly and sincerely in Jesus' name - we can expect life changing results. Are you ready to experience that kind of power? Are you ready to "just holler" and receive what can only come from God? Why don't you seek God for that? He's waiting.

    Scripture reference: John 14:13-14

    Just Holler! Part 3

    March 12, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Those times when it seems that God has abandoned me; those times when God is silent and it seems He is not even listening. You know what? God is not at fault. I'm the one at fault! Do I believe God is good? Do I believe His Word is true? Do I believe God intends good for me? Then why do I have such trouble and frustration? Maybe, just maybe I need to ask Him. Do I delight in the Lord, or are His ways troublesome to me? Do I just "holler" out to Him and hope for the best - or just hope for some relief - or just hope for something, anything?! No wonder I am frustrated. I believe I will take a moment and just let God love me and let Him make some adjustments in my life. I believe I will ask Him what He wants from me. How about you? He's waiting...

Scripture reference: Psalm 37:4-5, Acts 9:6

    Just Holler! Part 2

    March 6, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Do you pray and pray and hope - and even resort to wishing - and nothing happens? Actually, something is happening - God is saying "No." But why would He say "No" when His Word tells me all I have to do is ask? There is an answer. Sometimes our motives are not right. We have our eyes upon ourselves and not upon God and we ask for things that will only meet our selfish desires. God is God and we are not. He is not going to grant things that do not bring Him glory. When God says "No" He is actually doing us a great favor. Learn how to trust Him for your well-being. He's waiting...

Scripture references: James 4:3, Isaiah 44:6, Isaiah 45:5-6

    Just Holler! Part 1

    February 26, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever said, or had someone say to you, "Just holler if you need something?" My 3 month old grandson gets it! Whenever he needs something - he HOLLERS! And we try to supply his need. Did you know, even though He doesn't use those words, God instructs us in that matter?  God says, "You have not, because you ask not." There's one thing for sure - we all have needs. Where are you looking to find what you need? Who do you "holler" at when you need something? Why not try asking God? He's waiting...

Scripture references: Philippians 4:19, James 4:2

    A Place

    February 19, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Over the last few years my wife and I have been able to build "a place". We have a house and a barn and some sheds. We are satisfied and enjoy tending and maintaining. We are proud - in the right way - of what the Lord has allowed us to do. There is coming a time when we won't need this place, and we will go to a place that is being prepared for us. A place called Heaven. Jesus said that He is preparing that place for me and all who trust Him. He has been preparing that place for quite a while now. Can you imagine what it's gonna be?! The answer is, "No, we can't even imagine!" I know for sure that I am looking forward to it. What about you? Are you trusting Jesus. Is He preparing your place? He's waiting...

    Scripture references: John 14:1-3, I Corinthians 2:9

    Where could it be?

    February 12, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever misplaced something? Maybe put it away where you thought you could go right back to it and went to get it - and it's not there? Now the search is on. Then you hear the question, "What are you looking for?" You name the item and then comes the piercing question - "Well, where did you put it?" If I knew where I put it, I wouldn't be frantically looking for it! The search continues - goes on and on - and finally you find it. What a relief! Such satisfaction. Did you know one time Mary and Joseph lost something very important? They lost their 12 year old son - Jesus! It's true. They traveled a day's journey from Jerusalem and realized Jesus wasn't with them. Imagine that! But wait - is Jesus misplaced in your life? Do you not feel as satisfied or excited or spiritual as you once did? Have you misplaced Jesus? Is He number One in your heart and life? If not, why not let Him fix that now? He will be the best thing you ever find! He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: Luke 2:40-49

    Alive!

    February 5, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have been watching the little yellow flowers bloom out, adding a splash of color to the dismal looking landscape. There is a shrub in our yard that is blooming. In some areas the grass is getting green. Sure signs that there is life there. What lay dormant and appeared to be dead is now bursting out and exclaiming, "I am alive!" All that was needed to transform the seemingly dead landscape was some warm weather. So it is with our lives. All that is needed to bring a person to life is Jesus. When Jesus is allowed in, the person can exclaim, "I am alive!" Thank you Lord for the gift of life. Have you been made alive in Jesus? He's waiting...

    Nourishment

    January 29, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I covered a pretty large territory today in my travels, and I noticed the streams, lakes and ponds all have ample amounts of water. It wasn't too long ago the streams, lakes and ponds were nearly dried up because of a drought we were experiencing. Just needed water to replenish them. Same effect on the body when it is undernourished. Malnutrition will devastate the human body. Even more dramatic is the effect on our spirit when we don't allow God and His Word to replenish us! Have you experienced the replenishing, refreshing results of fellowship with God today? Have you nourished your spirit with the Word of God? Why not do that now? He's waiting...

    Instant

    January 22, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Instant coffee, instant potatoes, instant grits - many things in our lives today are instant. We can watch events on TV that are happening on the other side of the globe - as they happen! Many of the things we use that are instant seem to last only for that long - for an instant. There is a scheduled event that will happen in an instant - even quicker than that - the return of Christ Jesus. And although it will happen in an instant, it ushers in eternity. Eternity. Are you ready for that? When Jesus returns, you won't have time to prepare. The preparation time is now! Won't you secure your place in Heaven now? You can do it - in an instant.  He's waiting...

    What is there to know?

    January 15, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

There was an advertisement a few years ago about how good and natural a product worked that was used to color hair - "Only her hairdresser knows for sure." I don't know so much about that, but I do know that God knows everything. For example - do you know how many stars there are? God knows. Psalm 147:4 states, "He telleth the number of the stars" - and even more astounding - "He calleth them all by their names!" How many hairs are on your head? God knows. You know what else? He even knows your thoughts! Now here's my thinking on that - since God knows all that, and more, I am quite surprised that He is even interested in me. But He is. And He wants to take care of me and provide for me and love me. His intention toward me is only for good. God feels the same way towards you! I have accepted His offer of grace - and never have regretted it. How about you? He's waiting....

Freezing Rain and Sleet and Snow - OH MY!

    January 8, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

The morning of January 7, I went outside to feed my infamous goats and I was greeted with frigid temperatures and an accumulation of ice. The day before we had freezing rain and sleet and snow. The ground had some coverage and there was ice on the roof tops and icicles gripping the eaves. Beautiful but not my favorite scene. The sun came out bright (YAY!) and I noticed the ice melting and dripping from the roof. The ice on the ground hung on as long as the shadow was on it; but when the sunshine found the spots, that ice left too! Amazing what the light and warmth of the sun accomplished! Quite a wonderful thing. That's how it is with the sins in our lives. The light and warmth of God's love removes the sin and we can function again - unhindered by the guilt of sin. Quite a wonderful thing indeed! Have you experienced the light and warmth of God's love?  Why not do that now? He's waiting...

    Old - Still Works Fine.

    January 1, 2017 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Over the years I have accumulated several old things. I use a cane mill that's probably 100+ years old to squeeze cane and then cook the juice to make syrup. I have antique engines, some approaching 100 years old that will run as good as ever. Truly amazing how the old things still run and/or operate just fine! There is something else which is very old that still works - the Gospel of Jesus Christ! There is a line in a hymn that comes to mind - "And when in scenes of Glory, I sing the new new song; twill be the old old story that I have loved so long." The Gospel of Jesus - been around a long time - still works fine! Have you let it transform your life? Why not do that today? He's waiting...

    Happy New Year?

    December 25, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

As the New Year approaches I look back and reflect on the year that's passed. How was your year? Some will say "great," others" ok," and some will just try to forget it. You know, we can't recall a single moment from our past - it's gone. We do have before us a year that hasn't been touched! What will you make of it? You know how to have a good and happy New Year? Live each day for the Lord. Let all that you do, be for His glory. Then at the end of the year you can honestly say, "I had a great year!" Why not start today? Ever hear the saying, "Today is the first day of the rest of your life?" It's true. Call upon the Lord today - and every day. He's waiting...

    Merry Christmas?

    December 18 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Early in December we hear the phrase "Merry Christmas." Some are not allowed to say the phrase because it is offensive to others. Instead we hear "happy holidays." Ever wonder why? What does it mean - "Merry Christmas?" The word "Christmas" is a combination of two Old English words that would describe the coming of Jesus. It means the worship event of celebrating Christ's coming. The birth of Jesus - Christ's coming - arguably the greatest event of human history. The birth of Jesus - Immanuel, God with us - GOD WITH US! Hallelujah! The word "merry" is an adjective which means "cheerful and lively." When pertaining to an occasion or season, it is characterized by festivity and rejoicing. So to me, "Merry Christmas" means that I will celebrate Christ's coming with cheerful and festive activities. I am saddened to know that so many do not understand what Christmas means to them - really. I can and do pray that soon that will change and they too will know what I mean when I say "MERRY CHRISTMAS!"

    Believe

    December 11 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Be careful now. Does he still come to see you? If not, when did his visits stop - when you stopped believing? Around the holidays the word "believe" is displayed - banners, signs, stickers, and so on. The definition of believe is ,"accept (something) as true; feel sure of the truth of." We believe in many things. Believing in Santa is pushing it a little but, we believe that our automobile will get us to our destination - if not, we would be foolish to get into it! We believe when we flip a switch the lights will come on in our house. Our whole existence is determined by what we believe. And what we believe even determines our eternal destiny! Believing is probably the most crucial aspect of our lives - this life and the one to come. What do you believe in? Is your focus on God's most wonderful gift - the Christ? Take time today and listen to the offer that God makes to you through Christ Jesus. Believe in Him - today and forever. He's waiting...

    Am I Coming or Going?

    December 4 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever been so busy that you don't know if you are coming or going? I heard of a man who said to another person, "I'm going to look for myself, if I get here before I get back, please have me wait here on myself!" I can't say that I've ever been quite that strung out. It seems the hustle and bustle really picks up around holidays. I realize schedules get full and we want to be a part of as many fun activities as possible, but we can get so overloaded that we miss the joy and blessing of the season. Ever heard someone say, "I'll be glad when Christmas is over!?" Makes me wonder if they really experience Christmas. We have a little sign in our house that has a big message: "Simplify Christmas, Celebrate Christ." God has an even bigger message: "Be still and know that I am God" (Psalm 46:10). Is your approach to life satisfying? Why not try God's way? He's waiting...

    What's Up Goats?

    November 27 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have four fainting goats. They don't actually lose consciousness. If they get excited or are startled, their muscles tense up so they can't balance and they fall over. Only lasts a few seconds and they get up. It's their genetics. Very entertaining. My wife says that it's sad. Maybe - but still very entertaining. Does no harm to them. When I go outside and they are close enough I ask, "What's up goats?" The big billy will answer, "Baaaah!" They start moving closer. You know why? I'm the one who feeds them. Interesting - they know my voice and they know I will feed them so as long as I am near them, they will follow me. Now here is something very interesting - Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me" (John 10:27). Have you heard Jesus speak to you today? Have you responded? He's waiting...

    Scripture reference: John 10:27-29

    5K

    November 20 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I went to a 5K walk/run recently. Don't get excited - I didn't participate - at least not in the walk/run part. Our church was asked to set up a prayer station and I helped with that function. Now here's the thing - the temperature plunged overnight to the low 40's and by starting time the wind chill was in the upper 30's, and I'm supposed to sit outside at a booth. OK. I put on several layers of clothes and ear protection and hat and gloves - and made it fine! The reason - I prepared. I watched as the participants arrived and noted how they were dressed - they were prepared. I thought about how smoothly things were running along (pun intended) and knew it was because of careful preparation. Planning and preparation is the key to having success. Now may I ask you - have you prepared for eternity? There is a time coming when you, and everyone else, will stand before God. Are you prepared for that? You can be. Why don't you "seek the Lord while He may be found?" He's waiting...

    Luna

    November 13, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

When my oldest grandson was just an infant, he liked a children's show called "Bear in the Big Blue House." One character in the show was Luna, the talking moon. At the end of each show the Bear, another character, would step outside and talk with Luna about that particular day's events. My grandson would look at the TV and say, "Moon!" At night we would take him outside and show him the real moon. He would look up at that brilliant reflective object and say, "Moon!" At that time he was staying at our house in Mississippi while his Dad was serving in the Army overseas.  When his Dad came back to the States, our grandson went home to Texas. Very sad time for us, the grandparents. We were glad our son made it home safely, but we sure missed our grandson! I would walk outside at night and look up at the moon and wonder if my grandson was seeing it too. I got to thinking about how majestic and powerful the moon is. The affect it has on the Earth's tides, for example. So powerful, so majestic - yet so peaceful; and whether we think about it or not, the moon is always there - doing it's duty. Such is Christ Jesus - powerful, majestic, peaceful; and whether we think of Him or not, He's always there - doing His duty - loving us, providing for us, interceding for us. Have you stopped today and thanked Jesus for being there for you? Why not do it now? He's waiting...

    One More Time!

    November 6, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I love cars, and I was fortunate to grow up during the muscle car era. However, before I got my driver's license and first vehicle, my cousin and I would build "dragsters." Our dragsters were very simplified versions of the Soap Box racers - very simplified versions. But we loved them. Where I lived, in a subdivision, there was a steep concrete driveway that we would ride down. Great! Pull the dragster up, get on and roll down the driveway. It was getting late so I yelled, "One more time!" and down the driveway I went. When I bumped onto the street at the bottom of the driveway, I lost my balance and put down my left hand to catch myself - error. The wheel hit my hand and scraped it on the pavement - ouch! So I stopped saying "one more time" till this day, because I associate the phrase with disaster. Disasters happen to folks all time who push the limit and try something "one more time". Sometimes the "one more time" becomes the "last time." So it is with God's invitation to come to Him in faith. Please don't push the limit. When God calls, accept His invitation. His "one more time" may be the "last time" for you. Will you say yes to God today? He's waiting...

    The Road to Nowhere

    October 30, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever been asked, "Where are you going?" and you answered "Nowhere." As a teenager I remember heading out and I have answered the question like that - "Nowhere". We were traveling in North Carolina recently and came upon a sign by the road that read "The Road To Nowhere. " Naturally I wanted to see "Nowhere". The road was paved and well maintained. We drove on the winding mountain road, oohing and ahhing at the beautiful scenery for five miles. I looked ahead and there was a tunnel. We couldn't drive through it because steel poles in the road formed a barricade - end of the road. So I thought, "This must be 'Nowhere'". Only thing - I was somewhere. I didn't "blink off" into nothingness. I was there so it really wasn't a road to Nowhere. I have heard people say of others, "Their life is taking them nowhere". That's just not correct. No matter how a life is lived - it's headed somewhere. This life is our preparation time for where we will spend eternity. For the person who has rejected Jesus, "somewhere" will be separation from God and eternal torment - eternal. For the person who has accepted Jesus, "somewhere" will be fellowship with God and eternal peace - eternal. Where is your life taking you? You will end up "somewhere" - for eternity. Have you accepted Jesus? He's waiting....

    Maybe It Will Go Away

    October 23, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was reclined in my chair the other night . . . and so comfortable. Then an itch started on my back. I didn't want to move so I thought if I just ignore it, maybe the itch will go away. Didn't work. I stretched around and reached - but just couldn't get to it. So I lean back and try the ignoring approach again. Still didn't work. Still itching. I tried squirming in the chair. No good. I know full well the itch won't go away and I won't have peace until I scratch it! Where is that back scratcher? I found the scratcher and . . . Oh Boy! Excellent. Do you know that God has placed within each person a desire for Him that can't be satisfied by anything but Him? No matter what you attempt, nothing will satisfy that desire for God within you but God! Are you tired of trying other things and still remain frustrated? Why don't you allow God to fulfill that desire He has placed within you? He's waiting...

    Water From The Well

    October 17, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I was born in Houston, Texas . . . that's what I've been told. Even though I was there I have no memory of it. Soon after I was born, my folks moved us to Jackson, Ms where I spent most of my growing up years. My grandparents lived in the rural area of Leake County. On weekends we would travel from Jackson to the "country" to visit my grandparents. I don't remember a lot about those growing up years - I suppose too much happens to remember it all. One thing I do remember very clearly. One of my grandmothers had a well behind her house. When she needed water she drew it out of the well. When we would arrive at her house for our visit, my first question was, "Mawmaw, do you need water?" She would allow me to lower the bucket by way of a rope and pulley into the water down in the well and then pull it out with the water in the bucket. Very thrilling! Well it was thrilling to me. It was such fun and satisfying to draw that water up in that bucket! As time went on I realized just how important that simple process was - to draw water from the well. My grandmother's very existence depended on it. In Isaiah 12 we are invited to "draw water out of the wells of salvation. The "wells" speak of abundance. God's salvation gives satisfaction and joy to the heart. Our salvation should cause us to rejoice and praise the Lord! Will you accept God's invitation to "draw water from His wells?" He's waiting...

    Have you noticed?

    October 10, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I don't consider myself to be a health nut, and I try to not be critical of those who are. Having said that, I will say that I do like to feel good; and I have discovered that walking regularly helps me to feel good. I walk around on my place and as I walk I notice things. Trees and bushes and grass and flowers all look differently at different times of the year. Then after enough time had passed, I started seeing that things are aging and are decaying. Wooden fence and posts - aging and decaying. Limbs on the trees - aging and decaying. The buildings on my place are built with wood - aging and decaying. The vehicles I drive - aging and decaying. After walking, I go inside to freshen up and look in the mirror and guess what I see? That's right - I am aging and decaying!! I feel a little sad about that but then I smile and say, "Thank You Lord" - because those things I see decaying on my place are just that - things. My treasures are waiting for me in Heaven where there will be no decay. I can't even be sad too long about my physical condition, because I believe I will have a new body in Heaven - and it won't age and decay! Hallelujah!

What about you? Have you noticed all of that to be true in your case? Are you concerned by age and decay? Jesus can turn your concern into a lively hope of much better things to come. Will you let Him? He's waiting...

    Do the Math?

    October 3, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I've often heard the statement, "Things sure have changed since I was growing up. " Well, I'm old enough now to say that too! My 6 yr. old grandson is a first grader. That's not unusual. I was a first grader - in 1961. He had several "K's" before first grade - pre K, 3K, 4K, just K, etc. I had NO K. Just turned 6 and started school. What is taught now is different than in 1961. He, my 6 yr. old grandson, has computer class. In first grade I had a wide-ruled tablet, a huge black pencil, a crumbly eraser and a small container of creamy paste. Ahhh, the paste. What I remember being taught in first grade - don't eat the paste! Don't laugh - that is an important thing to learn! Then about third grade, I started learning math. The one thing I was taught would never change - math. One plus one equals two - right? Well yes, in the strictest sense. But let me share some advanced math with you. Simple yet profound. Everything minus God equals nothing ; Nothing plus God equals everything!! I'm glad one plus one equals two, and I am so very overjoyed that I learned that math with God in the equation. Have you "added" God to your life? He's waiting...

    Oh My!

    September 19, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Since March we at Remus have met for worship in the fellowship hall, because the church building was being expanded and remodeled. We entered the church Sunday September 25th for worship - and Oh My! It is beautiful. We were in such awe of what we saw. And the Spirit of the Lord was SO STRONG!! Hallelujah! After service and lunch and afternoon singing, after all the wonderful activities of the day were done, I was thinking of how much work and preparation had gone into making that first day back in the church such a special day. Then I got to thinking about that place called Heaven that Jesus is preparing for all who believe and trust in Him. Such beauty we can't even imagine. And the presence of the Lord then won't be in Spirit only - we will get to "look upon His face, the One Who saved me by His grace" - what a day that will be! All the promises of Heaven and eternity are mine because of my faith in what Jesus has done and is doing. And you know what? Those promises can be yours too. Have you trusted Jesus? Won't you today claim what is yours through His grace? He's waiting...

    The Call

    September 19, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Recently we were working on the landscape project at the church. What we wanted to accomplish began with digging holes - with post hole diggers - by hand. I found out that I'm not as smart as I thought myself to be; because I ended up with a set of post hole diggers - yikes! After a few minutes of digging (and very little progress) my phone rang (yay!!). One of my sons called and asked me what I was doing. I told him. He said I could thank him later for rescuing me. Then he told me what the call was about. I had told him some time earlier that when he and his family got ready to move into their new house, I would bring my truck and trailer and help. They were ready. Have you ever moved? His call wasn't much of a rescue. Just kidding, of course. I didn't mind helping. And it turned out that he had great help and they had mercy on the old guy (me).  So, I was glad I answered his call. There is a call each person receives that will greatly improve life if answered. It's the call of Christ when He says, "Follow Me." To those of you who have answered the call of Christ, you know what I'm talking about. To those who haven't answered - what are you waiting for? Life won't get better without Jesus. Will you answer His call today? He's waiting....

    The Dark Spot

    September 12, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever worked outside in the summer sun and stopped to take a break in the shade and said, "This dark spot sure feels good!" I have. And I remember when my oldest grandson was just starting to sit up by himself, I would ride him around our place on my old golf cart. I, of course, had him sitting on my lap. We would ride awhile and he would drop off to sleep. I would stop the cart in a shade and hold him cradled in my arms while he slept. When he woke up, he would point and grunt - he was refreshed and ready to ride some more! Do you ever get tired and "feel the heat" as you live your life? I do. Do you know there is a place of rest - a "shade" - that you can go to and rest? God will cradle you in His arms and let you rest in His shadow. Wouldn't that be refreshing! Why don't you try it? He's waiting....

    Mawmaw Look!

    September 5, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

One day recently our 6 year old grandson ran into the room and excitedly exclaimed, "Mawmaw Look!" He had something in his hand and wanted to make sure we saw him. I thought just how many times when our children were young and at home that they would call out, "Mama Look!" or "Daddy Look!" They had to get our attention, and of course we would look. Do you know that we never have to call out to God to get His attention? Psalm 34:15 records these words, "The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and His ears are open unto their cry." His attention is never diverted from us. Matthew records the time when Jesus was alone on a mountain, praying. His disciples were crossing the sea, and a storm arose. Even though Jesus was apart from them, He saw them and went to them! God sees you today. He knows your condition and position. Will you acknowledge His presence and accept His way? He's waiting....

    What a Mess!

    August 29, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I stepped into the hallway at my house one morning last week at 5:25am. From the kitchen came an unfamiliar sound. After living in the same place for several years, you recognize things that aren't the same. So I stepped into the kitchen to investigate. The water line to the kitchen sink had somehow come loose and was spraying water under the cabinet and running onto the floor. What a mess! Being the quick thinker that I am, I decide that I need to do something . . . brilliant. OK so I open the cabinet door and reach in and turn off the water. I retreat soaking wet from my head to my waist. Amazing how much water a very small line can gush out - and in a very short time! My wife heard all the clamor - there is a lot of clamor at 5:25a.m. trying to stop a runaway water fall. So she helped clean up the mess. Now what to do? There are options. The water line is faulty. So I can (1) just leave it alone and go on in an altered and uncomfortable lifestyle or (2) replace the faulty part and restore things to normal. I decided to replace the faulty part and restore things to normal. Good move. Now let's think in Spiritual matters. Do you "wake up" sometimes and realize something is not right with you? Could it be something is faulty in your life? If Jesus is not your Master, then something is definitely faulty. You have the same options: (1) leave it alone and continue in your depraved condition or (2) replace the faulty part. In the Spiritual sense, sin is the fault and it can be replaced with the righteousness of Jesus. Ready to make the change? He's waiting....

    Let There Be Light

    August 22, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I don't like the dark. Wherever I am, there is a flash light within reach in case the electric power is interrupted and the lights go off. There is a night light where I sleep. It took me a long time to convince my wife that I "needed" that night light. Her position was that when I am asleep, I won't know that the little light is not on. My contention was that when she is asleep, she won't know that it is on! Gracious Lady that she is, she leaves the light on. It's true - when I wake up during the night, I like to be able to see. Even though we have lived in our present house for 18 years, I can still manage to stumble over everything in the room - if it's dark. I suppose that's one reason I am looking forward to heaven - NO DARKNESS there! But you know, I'm not waiting on heaven for Jesus to light my way. I need help every day to see clearly the obstacles in my path. I once walked in darkness; but since Jesus came into my heart, I now walk in the Light. Are you stumbling through your life in darkness - spiritual darkness? Allow Jesus in, and you too can walk in the Light. He's waiting...

    That's a Good Question

    August 15, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Have you ever asked a question and had someone say, "That's a good question"? Probably one of the best questions ever asked was directed to Jesus by Thomas and recorded in John 14:5, "Thomas saith unto Him, Lord, we know not whither Thou goest; and how can we know the way?"

It's a great question because without it we may not have the wonderful answer Jesus gave recorded in John 14:6, "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." Jesus fills every need. He fills the directional need - "I am the way". He fills the educational need - "I am the truth". He fills the physical and spiritual need - "I am the life". Have you allowed Jesus to fill your every need? He's waiting...

    Wake Up! Wake Up!

    August 8, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have not done a survey, nor have I seen a survey done, but I figure one of the most despised things in our life is an alarm clock. Wouldn't you agree? As important and as necessary as it is, I despise an alarm clock. It always goes off at the most inopportune times. But just think what we would miss if we didn't wake up on time. Late for school, late for work, late for . . . well, you get the idea. And no doubt when we wake up late there are consequences to face. The Word of God is, in a sense, an alarm clock. The Lord's voice is crying, "Wake up! Wake up!" Those who hear and obey receive life and light. Those who don't hear and obey receive death and darkness - consequences to face. Which will you choose? He's waiting...

    Choose Me! Choose Me!

    August 1, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

I have yet to meet a person who wants to fail. Nobody I know gets up in the morning and says, "I want to be a loser." Just the opposite - everyone I know wants to succeed - and even strives to succeed. I remember as a youngster when we had playground games at school. There would be two persons designated as captains - one for each team. They were the athletic types - and popular. I don't recall ever being a captain. Oh well, no need to bring that up. Anyway, I was among the ones who yelled out, "Choose me! Choose me!" I always wanted to be chosen by a certain captain and play on that team. Do you remember those days? Or maybe as an adult you have waited for a company to choose you for a job. Maybe as an employee you have waited to be chosen for a promotion. Do you know that the greatest Captain of all has already chosen you? Jesus, the Captain of salvation, has chosen you to be on His team! Have you excitedly joined His team? If not, there is not a better time than right now. He's waiting...

    God in the Present Tense!

    July 21, 2016 - Brother Eddie Pilgrim

Did you know, in the Bible, there is not an argument nor a defense concerning "the existence", "the reality" or "the Being" of God? He is presented and that's it... "In the beginning God", and it moves on from there; and imperative to note "the beginning" is not God's beginning. God exists in eternity. He had no beginning and will have no end. He is eternally "present". That's what I would like for you to see. He is present with you and for you. It amazes me when I think how long I trusted God with my eternal destiny and wouldn't let Him take care of me in my everyday life! It wasn't that I didn't believe in God's power, I did and I do. But it's difficult to hand over the control of your life to a Being you have never seen face to face... isn't it? Since the initial trust I placed in Jesus for my salvation, the best decision I made was when I trusted Him with my everyday life. You know, God is no respecter of persons; what He does for me He will do for you. Have you trusted Him first for your eternal destiny, and then with your everyday life? He's waiting....
